Greggs

A couple of weeks ago we were in the local shopping centre and DH decided to treat us all to a cake. We got home and everyone at their cakes before me as I was busy putting the shopping away. I had asked for a devon donut which is like a donut with cream in the middle but when I took it out of the bag it looked like someone had eaten the cream from the middle as there was hardly any, I thought one of the kids had been at it but no-one had touched it. When I bit into it the taste was awful, it was stale and had a very sour taste. As I was moaning to DH about it he said that the girl in the shop wasn't very pleasant or helpful either and looked as if she would rather be somewhere else.
I contact their HO and they sent me £5.00 in vouchers which I thought was really good of them as I only expected maybe £1 and an apology. I went into the same shop today, don't know if it was the same girl but this one had an attitude too and looked as if she didn't know what she was doing. I gave her two £2 vouchers to use toward a £6.37 purchase, she said I could only use one so I thought ok i'll use it next time and gave her a £5.00 note. Then she said that if I used the voucher she couldn't give me change, I thought she was confused and didn't know what she meant. She rang the food up and then went on to serve the next customer without giving me any change. The shop was pretty busy and she was the only one serving, the other girl was in the back, and I was pretty confused about what just happened so I left the shop trying to work out what had just happened.
When I got home I noticed on the other voucher that it doesn't say that only one can be used per purchase or that change cannot be given although I know that with most vouchers you don't get change. It looks like she's put the £5.00 cash through first and took the balance of £1.37 from the voucher instead of putting the voucher through first.
I will use greggs again as I know that 1 or 2 bad experiences in the same shop is not the fault of the company and they way they handled my complaint was really good, it's just a pity that some shop staff are letting them down.

It might be company policy that the cash has to come first and the voucher used to make up the difference, its financially better for company to do it that way.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

If that is the case, why not ask for change (break the fiver) then pay? This seems totally ridiculous - seems to me the girl just wanted to show her "authority" (and made herself look a right prat).
Greggs are a good store with fresh food normally, seems you have just been unlucky.0 -
When I used to eat at Greggs (before turning into a health freak) I was always please with Greggs. Godd food, cheap prices and very fast service. Only snag is that in many branches you always have to ask for a tissue and they have none out on display. When trying to eat a pasty whilst walking, one tissue is often not enough! They say you can't put a value on life... but I live it at half price!0

We don't eat there very often but we enjoy the food although this store never has very much after about 1pm so we normally don't use this one, just unlucky I suppose.
I emailed HO again and told them how I appreciated the way in which they dealt with my complaint and that it was unfortunate that the staff in the same shop gave me reason to complain again. In the letter they sent with the vouchers they said that the staff in the shop had been informed of the complaint and were told to make sure that the standards were kept up to what was expected of them. Do you think she knew it was me that complained because I had a voucher? Will wait and see what happens now but I don't want them to think that i'm the type of person who complains about everything to try and get freebies as I very rarely complain, but I think this time I really have good reason to.0 -
I'm surprised their staff are that bad. Has anyone here ever filled in an application form to work at Greggs? My boyfriend applied for a managers job there recently and the application form has 10 pages of multiple choice answers to fill in, even just for a counter assistant job. Anyone would think it was MI5.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Got an email back from them yesterday and she said that she had phoned the shop and told the manageress that all vouchers that she issued would be accepted and to make sure the staff know that. She's also going to send me another £5.00 in vouchers to replace the £5.00 I spent in the shop. That's what I call customer service. Definitely won't be spending the vouchers in that branch though.0

Sounds like a dumb rule to me
On a slightly different topic is the onus not on the customer to provide the right money .. I thought I had read somewhere that a shop does not have to give change ???
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -

I think you're right Ivan.
Could you imagine 'sorry, I've got no change to give you from your £10.00 note for your 35p purchase - thats not a problem is it sir?' :rotfl: :rotfl:
The vent board would be even busier than usual
I like the vent board - it brightens my daySometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0
