Just tried to have a shower and no hot water-so went down to boiler(glowworm) and pilot light is lite ok-so turned it all off-then relit it as per instructions-then turned gas knob up and boiler fired up-but after a few seconds it goes back off and just leaves pilot light burning away-i have moved my switch in airing cupboard from timed to on-and still no joy-if i turn it off again at boiler and wait a few mins then relight-it burns for a few seconds then just goes back to pilot light being on-anyone have any ideas please?
as a side thought i have my central heating disconnected at mo and drained down and a radiator off wall as im decorating-but cant think this affects this as i have done this before and still had hot water but this morning pipes woke me up making a gurgling noise-could this somehow have put an airlock in system?

Hi I hade this same problem. At the side of your boiler (or poss the top) there should be a pipe pointing towards the ceiling. You can open the top of it to release some air. Some peoples pips have a tap like thing that you just unlossen but mine need a 2p coin due to the grove.Keep smiling, G.0

just undone some release valve on top and water came straight out-but boiler still wont fire up0

My guess is that your pump is kaput, boiler starts up, heats the water in a short streach of pipe, then turns off, as said water is quite hot enough.
Get a plumber.0 -
the pump onside of hot water tank in airing cupboard? that one do u mean?0

No hot water here either
Not fancying a large plumber's bill, I've taken out a service contract with british gas.
They're coming tomorrow and will add the cost to the monthly DD.de do-do-do, de dar-dar-dar0 -

That's the one, when your boiler starts up, it should start circulating the water around the system (put your ear close, can you hear it?). We got one replaced by a good local plumber for £80 last year.0

Is the the bolier a combi? i.e it heats the water has you need it? if it is you need the system full of water i.e the central heating side. if there is no pressure in the system then the boiler will not fire up. I think from memory you need about 1 bar of pressure in the system for most boilers.0
