    We move quite a lot (HM Forces, not criminals!). And the last move we had to sort ourselves.

    We got about 4 quotes and yes, Pickfords was the most expensive, but by far, the most professional in their 'pitch'.

    I contacted the Pickfords rep who had visited us, gave her all the quotes, but said we did want to go with them, could they match or better the others. She got down from about £1k to about £50 above the other top quote. Which i thought was worth paying the extra for.

    Bottom line, get loads of quotes and play them off each other.

    Last move I did they quoted £600 ish, went with the £120 van hire and a crate of beer for a couple of mates option.
