I didn't mean to sound critical but there are lots of things they can do without it involving much sightseeing; meeting friends, playing sports just pottering about generally.

French exchange students generally are amazed how little time English families spend together and how unimportant mealtimes are in family life.

No worries, i didn't take it the wrong way :)

This is what i didn't want them to see

Do i just show the blue badge when i get to the bridge or do i apply before hand?
just show it, or rather hand it over to them, and they take all your details down, look at the photo, and generally make sure it's really you in the car!

DS and me have discussed the open top bus, i have a bus pass so i can go free :)
Way to go! My walking group usually have one walk a year which involves the open top bus, they all get on and show their OAP passes and I have to pay. :(

The good things about the bus are that they can go up top and leave you in peace, and that if your visitor sees anything he would particularly like to do then you can either do it there and then or go back to it another day.

I also looked at go ape, but was concerned as i have to pay to go in too although i wouldn't be participating, i was going to slowly stroll with the dog. I have spoken to then and you do need an adult with them at all times as they are under 18, i did say that i thought that's why they had staff there, was told that was just to show how to use the equipment at the beginning, so some info there for anyone thinking of going.
Personally I think Go Ape is very expensive, but maybe it's worthwhile.

Mupette there's a MSE loophole guide here (as it might be useful for your son for the future), or else I can send you a code :)

muppette - this sounds like this is going to be a nice holiday for your son as well, without actually going away. (Though I know he gets his turn in July)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

We are trying to see if i can cope with a trip to London to the science Museum,

DS thinks that with the satnav and him we can't go wrong... (a few times have taken a wrong turn at Avonmouth and ended up driving to the Severn bridge).

Just checked there is a congestion charge of £8, although i could be exempt if i apply and pay £10 but can't guarantee that will be ready for next week.

National Express are doing tickets for £1 single journey, but checking the website, only if you go late at night.

Try the Megabus instead. Disadvantage is it doesn't stop at the museums, advantage is that it's often a double decker so better view of London!

I wouldn't drive to London and back in a day, and I sort of know my way around at both ends! :rotfl:

Mind you I'd go up the M32 and on to the M4 that way, and I live closer to Avonmouth than you do from what you said earlier! My SatNav sends me via the M5 but I never do that.

I did look at mega bus, seems it's £45.00 Bristol - London  each.

Ah well we pick him up at 5pm tomorrow, one and a half days left, after seeing the MS nurse yesterday, time to say sod it to what's not been done, take us how you find us, and relax.

Just need to get the car washed and valeted, lovely off duty firemen opposite the fire station on Hartcliffe way to do the job :j:j

DS doesn't do a good job, all slap dash.

Did pop to tescos last night they had a leaflet stand of day trips etc, grabbed loads.

:rotfl: washing the car certainly didn't happen when our guest arrived! It never even crossed my mind ...

Do you still get a voucher for free parking at the airport when you pick him up? Check if you haven't been told ...

Ahh the car has been attacked by seagulls and other birds it did need doing.

Free parking, yes we do, we've been instructed to park in short stay, and when we 'register' with them inside they give us the free ticket to get out.

The driving to London bit i don't mind, there is even a park and ride at Marble Arch to beat the congestion, but at £22.00 for up to 9 hours :eek::eek:or £16 for 6 hours, congestion charge is only £8.00 for the day. (but the parking bit i am worried about, will my car still be there when we go back to the car etc, will i actually find a parking space in London!!)
