If you are going over the bridge, try Dunraven Bay by Southerndown. It's one of my favourite beaches, there are old gardens froma mansion which has been mostly knocked down, and it's quite cheap to park there. Hardly any aminities though.

    Thanks Savvy_Sue

Fortunately (or unfortunate) I live in the center of Bristol, @ Bristol is not too far.. mind you it doesn't have that nice clean smell anymore, smells of nappies and god knows, but... there is a new bit where wild walk used to be that caught my eye, so yes that's a morning or afternoon.

Plus there is the ferry i thought that might be a good trip. Get to see the SS Great Britain going past, seems you only go there as primary school on day trips me and DS have done that.

The exchange student likes theme parks, but again a bit lucky the fair has come to town so hopefully that will do, Even managed to rope in a friend who loves all things theme park and fairs who will chaperone them there, as its not really a good place for wheelchairs, all grass and bumps.

As you live in Bristol why dont you come over the bridge and bring them to wales for the day ,I believe the bridge is free if you have a blue badge ,
you could go to things like Cardiff Castle or Caerphilly Castle .
Take a picnic and get them to go exploring through the castles ,both educational and exciting .
Also gives the exchange student a chance to see more of Britain

The exchange student has never been here at all, and i do want to show him, Scotland (sorry) is too far, Wales just over the bridge, not showing him our beaches, even our nice ones, he lives near the Spanish border with about 12 of the most beautiful beaches we can't even top.

Loving the ideas please keep them coming.

We have NICE beaches? :rotfl: Never seen sand round here ... it's all MUD! :rotfl:

Of course the open top bus is running now, I don't know what it costs for their age, might be free with an adult if you can manage it, or send a friend with them, you can hop on and off, and the guides are usually hilarious (if you can get past the accent!)

If going over the bridge, Tintern Abbey is lovely, nice tea room in an old railway carriage, and yes it's free to cross the bridge if you have Blue Badge.

PM me if you have any crises while he's here, my French is still passable, and DS3 did the exchange years ago (when he was in year 7!)

    Brilliant,

Do i just show the blue badge when i get to the bridge or do i apply before hand?

Bought Rugby tickets yesterday, delivered today, how about that for swift service, blimey Royal Mail, steady on.

DS and me have discussed the open top bus, i have a bus pass so i can go free :)

I also looked at go ape, but was concerned as i have to pay to go in too although i wouldn't be participating, i was going to slowly stroll with the dog. I have spoken to then and you do need an adult with them at all times as they are under 18, i did say that i thought that's why they had staff there, was told that was just to show how to use the equipment at the beginning, so some info there for anyone thinking of going.

Foreign students come to the UK to experience the British way of life, not to have every day packed with sightseeing. A treat or two is fine but don't feel that you have to pack every minute with excitement.

I didn't mean to sound critical but there are lots of things they can do without it involving much sightseeing; meeting friends, playing sports just pottering about generally.

French exchange students generally are amazed how little time English families spend together and how unimportant mealtimes are in family life.
