Hilarious! People in my area are increasing their asking price!

The bulls are now having the last laugh

I'm not convinced that this is so. I think it's a little premature to crack open the celebratory champagne just yet. WHo is going to buy those houses whose prices are allegedly increasing? FTB who say "thanks but no thanks" because they want a life outside bricks & mortar? STB uncertain and worried about what IR will do, never mind whether they will still have a job in the imminent future? Young people coming out of Uni, clutching their new degree together with a boatload of debts and slim prospects of a job? Least of all a secure job?
Who?
And I say that as someone who has no vested interest either way. Whether HP rise, fall or remain the same....its all cool. I've got a house and I own it outright.0 -
Are they oblivious to the state of teh economy?
Why should they care. If people cant afford to buy things the price is only going to drop so far to accommodate them.
If we are talking about desperate sellers then its a different situation but theres more to supply and demand then just price. The market will just have to develop in other ways.
Theres no underlying reason why people have to sell assets still useful to them and so no reason for prices to drop and a moderate rise is normal in line with inflation0 -

There are many posts and points made on here that it is unsustainable and therefore there will need to be a culture change.
Well the 'handout' comment was very much tongue in cheek but the history of this country in recent times seems to be those with no savings are still looked after by the social/welfare state... who knows if it'll continue? I can't see a return to Victorian days where you were left to fend for yourself. - I might be OK, I at least have a final salary scheme pension... but then the Govmnt may raid that in the future. I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see them raiding the "profit" from house sales to pay for elderly social care. With so much uncertainty about the future - carpe diem.IveSeenTheLight wrote: »Have you considered that your carefree way of living for today and now and not considering the security of your future is akin to other millions out there.
You want frequent holidays and all the rest and be able to buy a house. Very simplistically, I can see how you are not in a position to buy
I am in a position to buy, I choose not to because the area I currently live in is out of my price range, I live a better quality of life by renting, and I prefer holidays. I am happy! I'm not ruling out buying - if I lived in the North I certainly would. But to me and others, its about doing whats right for you and not following the crowd. Busting my gut to live in a cupboard Vs holidays and happiness = no contest.0 -
Abuse Report Received [#495233]
I'm sure someone else has mentioned this, but the mods and (presumably) a lot of the people who receive the inital abuse reports will be volunteers. Is it really fair to be swamping them with report after report that isn't even remotely considerable as 'abuse'?
In addition to this, there may be posts or threads on this site that are genuinely unacceptable, against the forum rules and might be upsetting to people who read them. You reporting every post under the sun as abuse means that the real posts that do need reporting and looking at probably don't get looked at so quickly.
So why don't you grow up and stop it? Having said all this, I'm sure you won't, and I imagine this post will be reported for abuse very shortly...0
