My Mum is Coeliac and gets all her stuff on prescription and now free, previous to this being free she had to pay over £100 for a Yearly prescription, but that still worked out a lot cheaper than individual prescriptions or having to buy the products.I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -

Exactly the type of thing that should NOT be available on prescription!! Basically what your saying is just because some Gluten Free products are expensive, the health service should pay for it!!0 -

You haven't got a clue just what it costs and how ill someone can be if they take gluten.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I just hope you are never diagnosed with this awful illnessthat's a wee bit like saying if you can afford cancer drugs go and buy them yourself.

I'm sorry but in this case you’re talking Bo**ocks....... you can't even compare having cancer to being essentially intolerant to a food substance... If your intolerant to Gluten you just have to avoid products with gluten in them.... SO you’re pretty much safe with all fresh fruit, veg & meat products that are not processed...... Doesn't even come close to having cancer....
Basically it comes down to diet... Yes it limits your diet but in theory you should be healthier not eating things like Bread, Cakes, biscuits, beer, crisps etc..... doesn’t stop you having nice healthy home cooked food..
I know a number of people with Celiac disease who live a perfectly happy nornal life without having to get their "gluten free bread" on prescription....
And for your information I am on medication for a rare form of Arthrits which I've had from my mid 20's, I have to take 4 tablets a day, have my blood tested every month, and will probably have to do this for the rest of my life.... so I am benifiting from the free prescriptions but I wouldn't oppose a fee if it help the overall health service..0 -

Coeliac disease is not an intolerance to gluten though it is much much worse. By the way I'm not one, I just know the facts as opposed to you.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
