Hi.
I was just wondering if anyone out there has any experience with waiting for security clearance for an mod civilian job?
I was just wondering if anyone out there has any experience with waiting for security clearance for an mod civilian job?
I was told that it would take between 6 to 10 weeks and I'm on about week 7 now but it just seems like nothing is happening and if I chase I just get told the same line everytime - "we're currently waiting for your clearance to come through".
Has anyone else had to deal with this wait before? Was there anything you could do to speed things up?
Suppose I should just be greatful that I know there's a job waiting at the end of it but just wish they'd hurry up lol

Unfortunately, it takes different amount of time for different people. Usually though it takes a week or two to get basic clearance (BC), then a bit longer to get full SC.
Where I work you can start on BC, with restrictions on what you can access, until you get SC.0 -
Hi CD02,
I'm in civilian security myself and I'm sorry to say these guys work in their own time and can't be sped up. With the way things are in the world now, more employers are asking for security clearance checks where they wouldn't necessarily have done before so there is a backlog and you are in the queue.

Cheers both
I was wondering why it was taking so long esp when I tempted there for 9 months last year but I suppose that would have just had a bc and this one requires a sc0 -
Crikey, I didn't realise they took that long! Goes some way to explain why I didn't get a mod civilian job a few weeks back, despite them saying I was excellent - they gave it to someone who'd had previous mod experience as they wanted someone in the role asap. So obviously they didn't have to wait to be clearedDo good deeds and you could raise the curtain, do good deeds and you could really raise your life....0

I've worked in a couple of government jobs, one i'm in full time now and it took about 6 months to go through, the second was part time and went through no bother in a couple of weeks, in theory if you're easily checked out, ie parents, grandparents, siblings are all UK born, and no major criminal record history it should get cleared quickly once you get to the top of the pile. If there are lots of things to check then it'll take more time for those to be done.
Remember, though, as far as i' m aware it is the Home Office that does checks, and their civil servants have been striking alot recently so that will cause delays as well, plus there are alot more jobs out there that require security checks to be done and unfortunately our wonderful government doesn't usually bring in more staff to deal with the increased work load, just extra for the poor low grade civil servants to try and get through.
Good luck though and I'm sure you wont have to wait much longer. Thanks to all the competition posters.0 -

If you've lived abroad for a while that can delay things, also if you've changed addresses.0

Nope, not lived abroad and not moved in ages, I live a very boring life lol0 -
I've just started with the MOD and it took over three months to get my SC clearance - and I'm Ex forces !!
Just keep chasing them, they lost one of my references but didn't bother telling me which obviously held it up. Ask them if they are waiting on any information ie references and check when they were sent back.0
