I know DH was hoping to go BR in April, but he wondered if it were best he plan it for end of May or something, just so he gets time to transfer everything across to CO-OP if that's the case, trouble is it's how long the creditors are going to hold off for?!

I managed to change all my DD and SO over very quickly (couple of hours max). Re: your creditors - it will probably mean a few more letters or calls... if you do wait, but all quite easy to ignore.

    Good luck

As sunnylooloo says, all quite painless! The only one thing is keep an eye of balance as online isn't always quick enough to update. Check for update balance by cash machine!! x

Have to agree with IWWH, Coop takes up to 2 to 3 days to show some debit card transactions. This worried me a bit so I invested in Quicken, the best £15 (Ebay) I have spent since becoming BR, now I know where and when every penny, that comes out of, or goes in to my account.

Sam it wont take long to transfer all your DD's etc. We opened our co op account 1 week before BR in branch. 2 days later our welcome letter with sort code and account number came through. The debit cards followed about a week later.

I cancelled all my DD's online with existing bank and then started to ring round everyone we pay by DD to give them new account details. Most were fine, a couple had to roll 2 payments into one DD for the following month depending on how near we were to being a payment due. And out of everyone it was the C Tax Credits and Child Benefit that required the most notice to set up a new DD.

But it was all pretty quick and sorted. I am sure you wont get turned down for an account, try not to worry and once you are prepared for BR the sooner it happens the sooner you can move on and get through it all.

It is a software programme that lets you keep a check on all of your expenditure. I never thought I would need a programme to do this, but after going BR I have found it a godsend.:)

I use excel to keep an eye on our incomings and outgoings, as soon as I have used the card for anything I put it on the sheet and it updates and shows what surplus we have (not a lot usually!!)

I have now got sheets set up to the end of the year, with all the usual outgoings on it, it works for me!

Im prob a little more old fashioned!! I have a week to view calendar and keep a written running tally of what we are spending, DD's due to go out and then an up to date available balance. I get DH to pass me all his till receipts and enter them on it too. I also make a note of insurances, big bills etc by date due.

Its worked quite well, but I might look into this 'quicken' as it would be nice to have something in place on the computer to refer to as well. Plus having just learnt how to use Excel it would be something to play with!!
