Your experiencing the reason why for the first time ever I bought 6 months of road tax last time.
End of October 2009 I was faced with this situation, insurance renewing 5 days before tax disk and we had a postal strike on :mad:0 -

Where does " it " state that ?
This is from the DVLA website;
" I have not received the tax disc. Can I use the vehicle without the tax disc displayed?
When you apply for a tax disc online or by using our phone service you are able to legally continue to drive your vehicle for up to 5 days after the tax disc has expired while you wait for the new tax disc to arrive. "
when I queried with DVLA about renewing online that is what I was told,
yes the car would be taxed ,BUT it is still an offence to not display a valid disc,
yes you would have the print out,but the police do not have to accept it,hence checking with their policy on the subjectI

Officially Post Office's and DVLA offices are not allowed to accept downloaded insurance certificates. However provided it's on good quality paper they can rarely tell the difference so you can do this.

Forgot to update you all! Phoned DVLA and after 30 minutes on hold I gave up. Phoned insurer and they said they couldn't email certificate. Phoned back DVLA and received a recorded message to say that lines were too busy and to apply online instead. Brilliant!
Anyway, certificate arrived in the post this afternoon and I got my tax soon after. Phew!
Thanks for all the advice:)0 -

Exactly, I spread the cost by dividing the tax by 12 and saving that each month into a savings account, I do this for both cars and for the insurance for both cars and I also add in £50 per month for servicing. Have been doing this for years and since I stopped paying my car payment last october I save that as well.£2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far
+ however may £2 coins I have saved in my Terramundi since 2000.

It's a great idea, the interest charge on paying for insurance and car tax monthly is usually more expensive than borrowing from other sources, much better to save up through the year instead.
Household insurance, insurance and tax for 2 cars all fall due around November every year. We plan ahead for it so we can pay cash on the day for all of it.0
