I use and absolutely love Ojon. It's not cheap but I find even with long hair you don't need to use a lot.

I have used Aussie long hair and I use this as my alternative shampoo and conditioner.

I'm someone who has tried lots and lots of products to make my dry looking hair shiny and sleek. My favourite by far is bodyshop honey S&C. I alternate with Herbal essence hello hydration - which is also very good. Someone else mentioned clarifying every now and then and would have to say this is very important for your hair to keep looking good as you are bound to get a bit of a build after a while. Something like Head and Shoulders would do that, followed by a very moisturizing conditioner.
  • If you are trying to save pennies theres no need to buy a seperate clarifying shampoo. You can use vinegar or baking soda! http://www.buzzle.com/articles/hair-clarifying-shampoo.html

"Boots own honey and jojoba shampoo and conditioner (£1.19 a bottle) works wonders on my hair. Since using it my hairdresser has commented how much the condition has improved. I straighten my hair frequently too."

Thanks for that tip Nikki, I've often contemplated trying this Boots one when my favourite was not on offer. I have so far tried Herbal Eseences, L'oreal Elvive, Pantennne, Tresseme, Dove, Aussie, Sunsilk. I quite liked Innecto Coconut one, though so far my favourite is Garnier. I think part of it is the smell and nostalgia attached to it - I first tried it during very happy times.:rotfl:

I currently use Body shop honey shampoo and conditioner, though I would recommend any of their hair products I just like the smell of this one!! I also use an intensice conditioning mask once a month.
Aussie products also work really well and I try to alternate between the 2.
My hair isn't in the best condition because I do like straightening but if I don't straighten for a week or so it is nice and glossy!

If so, what shampoo and conditioner do you use?

I've got waist length hair and I used Pantene Smooth and Sleek for years and had lovely smooth and shiny hair. However they must have changed the formula when they started selling it in 500ml bottles, as I started getting really thick greasy hair within hours of shampooing it. It was definitely the shampoo as I used my daughters baby shampoo for a couple of washes, and then went back to the Pantene and the grease came back.

So far I've tried Tressemme but that just left my hair dull, frizzy and it felt dry like straw.

James Brown Scandalous but that just left my hair in a tatty tangled mess.

Currently using Elvive Full Restore 5, which is ok and leaves my hair in reasonable condition but it is slightly dry and frizzy.

Not looking to spend a fortune on products and spend up to £5 for a 400/500ml bottle, and ideally something that is often on promotion so I can stock up :money:

I'm so pleased I've found this thread - I was beginning to think there was something seriously wrong with me/my hair. I've never had overly greasy hair - washing it 2/3 times a week, sometimes less if I wasn't going out, and I've always loved Pantene Smooth & Sleek. So when it was on special offer recently (the big bottles) I think it was 3 for 2 - I stocked up massively - I think I now know why it was on offer!

A few weeks ago I noticed that my hair was lank and greasy and my scalp was rather itchy, so I was washing it a little more often - then one morning I washed it and a couple of hours later I noticed that it still didn't feel dry at the parting (I hardly ever blow dry) - so decided to give it a quick blast with the dryer - all to no effect. So I washed it again - and rinsed for slightly longer - still horrible.

I started to imagine that it was my facial moisturiser seeping up into my scalp, or the new hand cream I was using may be leaving residue in my hair ...

I've spent hours on the internet trying to work out what it could be - and now I think I've found the answer - its the product - and its leaving huge amounts of residue - I don't use any other styling products - its just shampoo & conditioner, so it can't be blamed on other products.

I haven't tried the Pantene again yet (I'm rather worried to risk it) - I'm currently trying baking soda mixed in with a clear shampoo - which today has given me normal'ish hair, though still feels a little sticky/greasy in places. So I'll try it again in the next wash.

I'm just pleased I'm not the only one to have found this with this particular product - I just feel stupid to have bought so many bottles of the stuff, which is now going to go to waste. Any ideas what I can do with it????
  • dorsetlass Do you have a homeless shleter near you? Our local one has showers for people to use and are very grateful foe toiletries.
Or any local fetes where they could be used as lucky dip prizes or small raffle prizes?

I use Kerestase on my hair which is like bits of fuse wire, but often change the one I use according to how my hair is behaving at the time. Get it from HQhair as tis a bit cheaper that way.
I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break :D

I've had a real problem with shampoo leaving my hair greasy, and can relate to the chip fat comments!

I've found the only shampoo/conditioner I can use which doesn't leave it greasy is the loreal elvive one in the pink bottle (sorry, can't think of the name). I can use the normal or the light one, but its definitely the only product for me that does the trick.

It would be interesting to know if this particular Pantene product is causing problems - I certainly won't by buying any more.

I did then research products for getting rid of residue and remembered that a long time ago I used to use a Neutrogena product, about once a fortnight, and it was lovely - though I can't find it in the UK anymore, and I'm not about to spend 30 US on delivery. Does anyone know why they stopped supplying this product?

Thanks Ladyshopper I may try the Elvive pink - though I don't usually have greasy hair - and probably need a clarifying shampoo to get rid of the Pantene.

Any view on clarifying shampoo welcomed ...
