Aol WANT OFFER ME A DISCOUNT - CONFUSED

We have our broadband and unlimited phone calls with AOL (but line rental with BT). We pay £14-99 a month (+ extra for calls to mobiles).
This afternoon AOL called up to say that our contract was almost up and they wanted to offer a loyalty discount: 3 months at only £7 per month and then revert to £14-99 if we sign up again.
My friend in London has the same set-up as us but she got 3 months totally free and now only pays £7 - 49 a month. Even my Mum gets hers for £12-99.
We are all AOL with BT landlines and free calls. Why are we all different? The nice Indian lady swore blind it wasn't possible and that £14-99 is their absolute best offer.
Should I believe it?? Any advice welcome.

Request to cancel or for a MAC code. They will soon transfer you to their retention team. If there is any offer available they will let you know

Never believe what they say! Check out other offers available to you and go back armed with that information (if it's better!!) and if they don't break tell them you want your MAC and see what happens. Either they'll give a better deal to retain you or you can go to another provider with a better offer.0

Thanks for that, guys. That is what I plan to do. Was just wondering what I should be aiming at as a 'good deal'.0

A good deal is dumping AOL. Almost any other ISP will do better for you. As advised, research the market (especially your LLU options) and see what the best deal you can get is.
Broadband is exchange specific, so it's not possible to say what the best deal is without knowing your exchange.
This is why people on other exchanges may be getting better AOL prices than you, because they are possibly on exchanges that are LLU'd by AOL.

Thanks, macman. I checked and I am the Stanley exchange but don't really know where to go from there.
(Sorry to to be so clueless!)0 -
There are (much to my surprise) 3 exchanges of that name. Are you in Liverpool, Durham, or Perth and Kinross? No free lunch, and no free laptop

That's the exact same deal as they offered me last week. I spoke to them and they have now come down to £12.99 for 18 months. That includes free phone calls - so i'm happy with that0 -
Perth and Kinross
Unfortunately that is the only non-LLU exchange of the three Stanley's. No LLU suppliers on a Market 1 exchange means higher prices.
So the best price you will get for broadband is £11.99 with Plusnet Value(£5.99 for the first 3 months, £28 Quidco cashback available). They do line rental around the same price as BT, and Anytime calls add a fiver.
So you would be paying around £17-more than AOL, but a much better service.
On a non LLU exchange you're not going to get much below £15 unfortunately, due to BT getting their cut.No free lunch, and no free laptop

That was helpful, thanks. I have been back to them (I've had them for years and am basically very happy with the service).
Was offered £12-99 per month for an 18-month contract (including free anytime calls) or continue at £14-99 per month and get first 3 months free. Did quick mental calculation and went for the free months (averages out at £12-49 per month) . Hopefully in 18 months my exchange will have been upgraded and a better deal will be available.0
