Singapore Airlines Manchester-Munich

Singapore Airlines now stops at Munich to/from Manchester and has full traffic rights between the two European cities.
This has enabled the airline to upgrade to a 777 and offer a 3 class service.
Interestingly, there seems to be no code share with Lufthansa.

This is a terrible shame. The MAN-SIN flight was by far the most convenient for me, and a very good service too. Who wants to stop at MUC? The flight is long enough without all that palaver.
This makes it far less likely that I'll go through MAN in future. And if I'm now forced to go through LHR to get a direct flight then SIA would no longer be an automatic choice: if Qantas/BA were cheaper I might well go with them (I find their service acceptable, although clearly not as good as SIA).0 -
Emirates are starting an A380 double decker service from MAN in September.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

I don't know how much time it adds onto the journey, but I think that it was the only viable way the service could continue.
I would imagine that unless you lived closer to LHR, the Manchester option would still be quicker.RIP independent MSE.

You're probably right - it must be an economic decision. For me it was about a combination of time and convenience - by train I'm about 4 hours from MAN, 5 hours from LHR so MAN is closer. But it was never only about the time: I find MAN a much more pleasant airport to fly out of than LHR which (with the arguable exception of T5) is a hideous load of hassle.
Time spent on board and in transit is probably the biggest factor for me, though: I would almost always choose to fly direct where possible, even if it costs slightly more and meant going through LHR.0 -
It looks like the stop at MUC adds about 90 mins onto the journey, increasing flight time from 13 hours to 14.5 hours. On the other hand it is now 5 days a week rather than 3.
