  • Depends on your definition of 'ripped'. If it was that horrible sound of the threads going (as I'm sure we've all done when trying to squeeze into/out of a top that's just slightly on the small side) but not actually tearing, then I'd probably put it back and pick up another one. If on the other hand it was a very definite hole I'd tell the assistant and apologise - I'm willing to bet most places would just say, "Not to worry, we'll just mark it as faulty".

    Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")
    Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")
