Will a PAYG sim work in a contract iphone?

Hi all
Quick question, well quite complicated actually!
I was thinking of getting an iphone a while ago on contract, but then decided against my better judgement and thought that sorting my debts out was priority.
I am currently on PAYG with orange. A friend of mine got an iphone through orange (on contract) and basically hates it. She has offered to sell me it at a reasonable cost and my boyfriend has offered to pay for it for my birthday (he loves me
)
So basically the phone wont cost me anything, but I was wondering if my PAYG sim will work in the iphone, with it being a contract phone?
Obviously I dont want him to fork out if its not even going to work.
Thanks peeps

Some debts are fun when you are acquiring them, but none are fun when you set about retiring them!!!
It's amazing how fast later comes when you buy now!!!!

It will work, however it will be trying to make data connections. Iphone contracts have unlimited data so this is not an issue, PAYG does not.
Orange charge up to £2 a day for a 25MB download limit, ior you can buy the Orange World bundle for your tarrif.
You'd need to look into either buying internet access as a bundle or moving to a contract if you want to use data to any great extent without high charges per month.0 -

Great thank youI will definately look into the data bundle costs etc.....thought that would be the case but didnt want to do a load of research if the sim wouldnt even work in the first place!

Rather than PAYG it will probably be cheaper to get the new Tesco SIM only rolling monthly contract or the 02 SIMplicity 12 month which has up to £200 cashback until the end of tomorrow, not sure what it drops to after that. You should be able to port your number in within a few days. You might also consider whether the handset actually belongs to your friend to sell: if she is in contract it may belong to the network (used to work like that not sure if things have changed).Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Hi
Thank youi shall defo look into the tesco deal too
I didnt think about the contract issue, hopefully someone on here will be able to answer that one?
Saying that what is the likelihood of orange asking for the phone back? hmmm not sure its worth the hassle...maybe tesco is the route OR stay with my old phone for now
Thanks
