You have clearly made my point very well, that to buy 2nd hand silver is about the same price as new including VAT.
You know that is not the case, I can buy cheaper than you can buy new off ebay.
Scrap value is new value EX VAT at best. (often less due to it having to be melted down again)
I am not trying to point score off you, you are making a simple business error in relation to VAT and value.
And in the best intentions I would say you should look in to it and learn about it.
But I see your passionate so I will give you some cheap silver.

The problem with silver is that it tarnishes easily and needs constant polishing to maintain shine. This makes it less attractive than gold as a jewellery metal, given that gold requires little polishing. I don't see what other usage silver can have, other than for electronics purposes perhaps.
I have several (very) expensive sterling silver fountain pens with gold nibs, but this is a tiny market, and mainly for the affluent.0 -

All digital cameras/phones etc NEED silver as does pretty much every electrical item today.
Without silver our modern way of life would go back to caveman ways.
95% of gold is still in the world its not consumed but 95% of silver has already been used up.
There is now more gold available than silver, because every year more silver is consumed than is mined. Stockpiles have been slowly going down and now there is hardly any left.
If you dont know these fundamentals of silver its easy to research. Start with https://www.goldsilver.com
Really 2 that funny art bar you showed isnt even in the UK so tax on top would apply. But anything like that is not worth as much as a bullion coin.
I am very interested in what your talking about buying scrap silver. Are you able to send me a link to prove your not making it up?
I think scrap silver will be harder to sell than recognised bullion with a mintage mark, serial number and matching certificate.0 -
Silver used to be used as the backing for mirrors - hence why vampires could not be seen in them. Modern mirrors don't use silver, yet vampires are still casting no reflections. What's that all about?"I can hear you whisperin', children, so I know you're down there. I can feel myself gettin' awful mad. I'm out of patience, children. I'm coming to find you now." - Harry Powell, Night of the Hunter, 1955.0

1) OK this is you and your VAT problem again, Import from GURNSEY are not subject to UK VAT.
2)What do you mean what I am saying on scrap values? that it is worth less?
http://www.cooksongold.com/metalprices/ scrap silver is £9.51 ex vat against £13.48 new (all ex vat)
3) If you are doing for end of days senario if the currency no longer exists it is scrap and your certificate is just the same as a valid hallmark. (your current value is like it is because it is still legal tender)
As for all of silver as been used have a look at this and gold and silver extraction rates.

Really2 I have never met anyone so uneducated.
You could not be more wrong if you were trying.
If what you are saying is true then everyone would buy silver from Guernsey.
Unfortunately you are wrong as usual.
If you buy very small amounts you may get away with it, is that what you are talking about?0 -

Yes, and with silver bullets you can kill vampires - and werewolves! No wonder silver has nearly run out with all those blood sucking vampires and wolfies out there that need to be dealt with. :rotfl:
As for the mirror thing, vampires are supposed to be demons, and therefore evil creatures, while silver has 'heavenly', spiritual properties and cannot reflect demons because they have no souls. I believe this legend comes from the fact that silver has proven antibiotic, germ killing properties, so this was extrapolated to give the metal some kind of supernatural power.
By the way, how do you know that vampires are still not casting reflections, even with glass mirrors? Do you know any vampires?0 -

Sorry Mr Sell one coin on ebay? (read your own posts you hardly come across as mr trader)
How much are you looking to buy. As long as you buy them one at a time you would not get charged vat (Under £18 per shipment)
Have a chat with someone who is not a qualified accountant on VAT as I can't be @rssed to rescue you any more.

Calling me Uneducated and a fool just shows how ignorant you are of the whole VAT system
Get yourself a nice silver backed mirror as you are the one who is so wrong.0 -

I was reading an interesting article about the antibacterial properties of silver. In ancient times the Greeks (or Romans, or both) used to keep their drinking water in silver vases, not only because it didn't rust but because they were healthier if they did."I can hear you whisperin', children, so I know you're down there. I can feel myself gettin' awful mad. I'm out of patience, children. I'm coming to find you now." - Harry Powell, Night of the Hunter, 1955.0
