BTW, If you are in Northern Ireland (NI), you can flash your (English, Welsh or Scottish) bus pass on the Portaferry-Strangford ferry to travel at no cost. I am sure that there are other deals in NI that don't discriminate against pensioners from the mainland. Besides, it is a lovely place to visit.
Again, maybe this is for another forum, but most tourist places in Italy give discounts to over 60s - just remember to have your proof with you. Last time we took a tourist boat round one of the lakes, I got a cut-price ticket, and my wife (57) got the same deal, as my "carer"...0 -
Our dentist gives a 10% discount to over 65's.0

Anyone got a clear answer about prescription charges for the over 60s? I know there was talk of staggering it similar to pensions and bus pass but I can't find anything on the DWP site that's definitive. I am distinctly unimpressed that my OH got his bus pass with only a 3 month wait last years but the earliest I can have mine is June 2012! I shan't bother though because I don't understand at all why pensioners should receive free bus travel!0

You definitely get free prescriptions when you reach sixty - no waiting until you reach the retirement age for women...

I don't understand at all why pensioners should receive free bus travel!
It saves the country needing to build new roads because pensioners are bumbling about in their 20 year old 5,000 miles a year private cars.
It prevents those dangerous (female) drivers from venturing out onto the roads.
It costs the country about 50p a journey in half empty buses.0 -

My (free issued) bus pass serves as a photo id. I did not bother changing my pink paper driving licence into the new fangled photo type which only lasts 10 years, at an extortionate cost!0 -

I'm pretty sure the back of the prescription that you sign has a tick box beside the statement 'I am over 60 years of age'.....................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Right from my 60th birthday I've never been asked for such proof anywhere.
OTOH a 60+ discount wasn't offered before that birthday. Have to be grateful for that. :rotfl:0
