Just done a search for the three of us (2 adults one child) to go to LA from Manchester during May school holidays. We can indeed get £393 but only if we do three stops taking the overall journey to something like 16 hours. We can get one stop 'if' we fly from Heathrow which involves an internal flight down to London.

Hype, Hype and more Hype!

You seem to want them to create a route just for you!
    Gone ... or have I?

Ooooh! Got out of bed the wrong way did we? :p

Manchester to LAX isn't the most outlandish route ever.

This is exactly my situation - same destination as well. Just dont know what to do, really - I want to fly Air NZ or Virgin as AA have such poor writeups.

I was in this same situation last year, I flew to Australia and wanted to fly Singapore. It was £800. Malaysia offered £560 bargain fare, I went for it. 1 month later Singapore dropped to £399!

I dont want the same to happen again.

Out of London they are fine- I've heard the Manchester flight isn't as good though but hear good things about Delta from Manchester. Quite honestly there isn't much to choose between them all in economy to LAX though-an economy seat and an airline meal is never going to be marvelous. Virgin used to be quite good but I don't go out of my way to fly them anymore even on the routes with better planes like LAX-it's not what it was and I wouldn't pay more to fly with them instead of AA.

  • Once you get to New York, you can travel to the US Virgin Islands for a little more to enjoy some sun, sand and sea.

What sort of things aren't what they were on Virgin?

I just scraped some London - NY flights for £299! I had seen some other dates I wanted to book, but they had gone up by £50-80 in a day, so I hastily found some other dates and booked them straightaway. The flights on AA directly were cheaper than the search sites like Opodo.

Interestingly enough, my return is on 1st July and it still came to £299, even though the sale is supposed to be until 30th June. It might be worth expanding your search by a day if you plan to return at the end of June.

How bizarre. £407 direct to LAX from LHR when I posted in this thread last. Checked availability - there were 75% of seats free on the aircraft (AA lets you view seat allocation before booking).
3 days later I went to book it and the flight was now £629! The same 75% of seats were available...
Very strange. Looks like it will reluctantly be Virgin at £475 now..
  • Where did you find virgin 475? Btw, the same happened to me. I searched tuesday, found £393 and then looked on saturday just gone, £540 odd. :(
  • yeah the same has just happened to me, flights were £550 last week now they are £722.What's going on....
