I would be grateful if you could tell me how to do it.
About six months ago I tried with the combined help of the techie board and could not get it working.

Install thunderbird first and download the webmail and hotmail extensions.

Close Thunderbird after install, open it, don't create any accounts yet, but click on the tools > extensions and install the extensions you downloaded, just a case of after clicking extensions you search to where they are or drag them into the extensions space. Click install, when installed close Thunderbird.

Open it again, if it does't prompt to create an account hit tools > account setting and add an account.

Prompt comes up, check the webmail account, fill in your name top, bottom email address yourname@hotmail.com or hotmail.co.uk click next, then it will state incoming user name, so it will say your name.

    Next > Finish.

    Then O.K.

On the left you will see your name (email name) it will say WebMail - Your Name.

Click on it and then click on view settings for this account on the right.

Click on your name in settings.

Under account name change it to yourname (or what you want this account to be named)

Then your name, fill in what you want it to be.

Under email address, make sure it's yourname@hotmail.com or .co.uk

At the bottom you will see 'out going smtp' You use this to send mail from your account, so find the outgoing server (smtp) for your i.s.p mines aol so it's smtp.aol.com <--example and the smtp port is usually 25 your i.s.p maybe different, you can edit this and name it in account settings, it's it's just above 'account settings' click on the outgoing server then on the right will be add and edit, fill them in.

    Thats about it.

Please note that you may have to fiddle with in server settings the none, tsl, ssl and tsl, if available and time out.

One thing, with hotmail.com if you're using the windows live beta hotmail settings where you view your emails rather than the older version it's won't work for some reason under hotmail.com but it's o.k. under hotmail.co.uk

I would suggest getting a hotmail.co.uk username and using that in Thunderbird as it works better less time outs and you can use the hotmail live beta with it.

    Thanks

Under Account name remove Webmail -.

    Click server settings.

Under Username change it to yourusername@hotmail.com or .co.uk
