I think if that were the case, they'd do it on something less obscure than an expensive BBQ. Debenhams have always been reputable with my orders - I did have a coat cancelled in Jan, OOS and this happened about 3 days after the original order was placed, and the confirmation e mail received.

If you note in their T&C:
Order Acknowledgement email – We have received your order and that it is currently being processed. Payment is taken at this point after security checks have been made.

THey took the money out of my account, and refunded it when I got the cancellation e mail.
