Why shouldn't I vote lib dem?

No point voting Lib Dems because the average member of the public are only interested in whats best for them rather than whats best for the country.
I have this mindset, I run a business and I vote for whoever I think is going to provide least pain to me as a business owner.
However generally, I think there is a vast swathe of people who vote for certain parties simply because they feel obliged to as their parents voted for them, their parents parents voted for them etc etc....
It happens both ways, the Labour candidate for Henley on Thames isn't going to be exercising many of his ideas after the next election......likewise and Conservative MP in a Nothern mining town is on a hiding to nothing. There are then people who feel the BNP is a viable enough option to gain their vote.
Is that the problem? Linked with the general apathy of people to actually vote and when you break down the vote for the winning party it's often less than a third of the population of the country.
How many of the people that actually go to vote understand the policies of the party for whom they vote, or even actualy know what the policies are of the party for whom they vote?0 -

Indeed. You only need to read threads on these forums with posters who refuse to vote Tory because of Thatcher, I mean, that was 25 years ago, New Labour maintained similar policies to her and gave them 3 terms in office!.
I think voting is very much based on your family traditions and/or location and it is a big shame and is why we'll only ever get two real choices each election, Red or Blue.Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.0 -

Wait a minute Thatcher was a different class to this lot (and I don't mean in the Eton, Harrow definition).'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
I don't want the Conservatives in because they took away my free school milk, most of the men in my family were miners (and we still hold a grudge) and I think David Cameron only got his wife pregnant to help him win votes! I don't want Labour to stay on because they haven't really acheived much and we really need a change.
I think I have only voted once before, mostly because I kept forgetting, and that one time I voted Labour because my mum told me to - but this year I am taking it seriously and I think the Lib Dems are the best of a bad bunch so they will most likely be getting my vote.0 -

I think that's why the Lib Dems are doing so well in places like Sheffield, never vote Tory (steel industry in Sheffield's case) and feel let down by Labour.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -

With this level of political sophistication, it's no wonder we keep getting rubbish.
There is an old maxim. A country gets the government its people deserves.
Very very true.0 -

The only reason not to vote Lib Dem, from a person living in a constituency with a Lib Dem MP, is if the major opposition party in your area is Tory.
It's called Tactical Voting and due to how the FPTP system operates then that's what you have to do if you don't like Labour in power.
If you don't like Labour and live in an area where the next biggest party is Tory, then voting Lib Dem would allow Labour to get back in as you would be splitting the opposition vote.
However if you live in an area with a Labour MP and the next biggest party is Lib Dems then voting Tory would be splitting the opposition vote and a wasted vote.
In my case voting Labour would be a wasted vote whether it's general elections or in up comming local elections in my ward. So I have a choice in either voting Lib Dem or Tory for both.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Ahh, so you're having Mandy's job, then.
Well, it'll have to be Education, then.
Or DSS or whatever it's called now. I'd enjoy cutting the benefit bill immensely. Finish off what Frank Field never got the chance to finish...
I want to be Education Minister.
I really really want it.
As to my policies......:p
well, I'll unveil those after elected ; in time honoured tradition.:T
