Good advice. A whole new world opened up when I figured this out. iPlayer and a lot lot more catch up TV.thescouselander wrote: »Do you have Virgin tv? If so you can get iplayer on your Virgin box.0 -
Try getting a business adsl package, i'm with Pipex, sorry Tiscali - I mean Talk Talk, or then again I think it's Opal! Damn these takeovers! Go to Pipex.co.uk and try their business package, I'm on their legacy Lite package which looks lesser to what they're offering now - download as much as you want between 11am-6pm without it affecting your monthly limit.
For £17.04 Inc VAT a month I get up to 8Meg service, 25Gig download, 25-1 contention ratio and no traffic gestapo and the best of all, if you don't like it you can quit after 3 months.0 -
Im on 10Meg Virgin, and even when throttled I can easily watch streaming content without a problem:idea:0

Do you have to be a business to get this ?
Is it suitable for an online gamer person ?0 -
I have a similar sounding package from talktalk - Took it up a couple of years ago from Tiscali. It's now £18 a month including line rental. I only get ~2Mbit as I'm a long way from the exchange (should be up to 8Mb), but it's never been throttled (300Kb/s torrenting) and I've never had an issue with ~40Gb a month usage.Do you have to be a business to get this ?

I play online games, a lot, and don't have problems even with the Mrs on iPlayer or Youtube. Apart from Modern Warfare 2 - but that's not a broadband problem!
For £18 it meets my needs perfectly.0 -

if you go to the samknows website as instructed above that will tell us what options you have,
the main things what are needed are what is your usage in GB (roughly) and how much are you willing to pay and whic LLU/cable providers you can get
if you are stuck with ADSLmax or equivelent some of the best providers are ones with clearly defind usage limits as anything which is advertised as unlimited (on normal ADSL or ADSLmax) will have traffic management in place
i personally recommend Newnet, idnet or Zen internet for ADSL only however these are ones which have clear usage limits where if you go over these you will have to pay more for the extra usage but these do not have traffic management (that i know off)Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -

Thanks for all the replies and helpful advice. To answer the question of "what makes me think I'm being throttled", I get consistently high speeds for approx 30 mins media or 350mb, well acceptable speeds anyway. After this point my entire connection hits a barrier and I can't watch any streaming media without constantly stopping to buffer (every 2-3 seconds) and if I attempt to download a file I struggle to reach 25k/s (on a 9mb+ connection). It's not the source I'm d/l or streaming from, it's not dependant on time of day for too many users etc, it just annoyingly appears that I'm being restricted after d/ling a small amount of data, it's frustrating to say the least...especially halfway through Top Gear lol.LBM 2 - 27.05.09.
