I guess so, thanks - I just assumed you rang them up, gave them the date you move and that's that.

Does that mean I'll have to pay for the current owners usage too? Not the end of the world, just curious

No, you don't pay for the current owners usage! The day you arrive, take the opening readings and call BG ASAP to open the account in your name. The outgoing owners should have taken closing readings and will receive a closing bill.
You are then responsible for your own usage until such time as you switch.
