The only real difficulty, is that you are now duty bound to report, to any potential buyer of your home (if you decide to sell in the future) .....that you have not had good relations with your neighbour......I believe its now the law...this will seriously hamper any chance of moving!

So ideally it would have been best to record by any means necessary, the times, numbers of, misuse of plates etc and handed the info over to the relevant authorities anonymously, so you WONT be named as the neighbour in dispute....BEFORE you involved yourself with him

So T Standards....DVLA...Inland revenue can take him on.........after all thats what their there for...let them take the strain....

    Horse has bolted sort of....:(

Advertise a large FREE car boot & Garage sale at his address in the local free paper stating clearly that all stallholders are welcome but vehicles must arrive at 6AM on Sunday Morning on a first come first served basis due to limited parking!. Should inconvenience him as much as he has inconvenienced you, and make him popular with his immediate neighbours.

But I don't seriously encourage you to do this *cough*

Eh?? How does that make sense? You bought the car - didn't you check it over?

It's like saying "ITV are useless, I bought some washing up liquid advertised on that channel and it didn't clean my dishes properly. I complained to ITV but they weren't interested."

You bought a car through their site? Were you expecting Autotrader to valet the car, HP check it, give it a spring clean for you, drop it round to you and chauffeur you around when you so wish as well?

Autotrader are an outlet allowing sellers to advertise to potential buyers, nothing more. If they checked over every car before they allowed them to advertise then they would be out of business. Check the car before you buy it!!

    Hi,

Unfortunatley I live opposite a 2nd hand car dealer on a private estate he does have a lock up where he "allegedly" trades from but regularly takes pictures of his cars for sale on our estate of nine houses in the background of his pictures are mine and my neighbours houses clearly showing alarm boxes on walls ,whether the drives are empty,at certain times of day but more importantly OUR cars are visible in the drives with the registration numbers of OUR vehicles clearly visible and open to car cloning etc.

He has a trade section in the Autotrader where these pictures are posted. My wife has been in touch with the autotrader and basically been fobbed off saying well he takes his own photos so it is out of our control.....I would have thought that anything they publish on their site is THEIR responsibility.

Any advice dont even suggest trying to talk to him that avenue has long been exhausted....Oh and while im at it he is also mis-using trade plates ie talking the kids to school, going to the shops driving the same car one day with plates the next without then the next day with etc think you get the picture any advice greatley appreciated...

As a car dealer i can give you my advice. Firstly its absolutly nothing to do with Autotrader where the photos are taken. It is my choice where i take them and there is nothing anyone can do to stop that, unfortunate in your case but true. In all honesty i dont see the big deal about your vehicle on view as well but each to their own.

The thing that does strike me is the trading plates. These are very important to traders and are very very easy to have taken off you for mis-use. If what you are saying is correct (the school runs etc) then he is breaking the terms and conditions of his trade plate licence and as such can be reported. He can only use them to pick up vehicles which are un-taxed and on way to garage, pick up or drop cars to customers etc. You may have a case here, but proving it is a different and lengthy matter.

Thanks for the reply he does have a unit on an industrial estate where he keeps the cars and alledgedly sells them when he first moved in he was selling from his drive but as the houses and neighbours were all new you just sort of put up with it the estate is "open plan" but the last straw was when we came home to find 4 guys looking round a car giving it a good poke and prod as you do but the car they were poking and proding was OUR car the same model as the one the guy had been advertising!!!

Lets say a few choice words were exchanged....he then proceeded to use our drive ,(when we were at work) to manoeuvre cars on and park on my drive while he moved another car etc. again words were exchanged...

As I say he now has this factory unit but regularly has 4 or 5 cars on his drive at any one time and is constantly back and forth during the day with different cars sometime dispalying trade plates.

He lists the factory units telephone number on his web site and also a home number.

Question... even though he has business premises he is at home 50% of the time during the day how does this stand with regards to running a bussiness from home although he is not actually selling from outside his house anymore he is constantly back and forth with cars and as I say sometimes with trade plates .To make it worse it is a cul-de sac and we are at the end directly opposite this @ hole.
Surely if he gets reported he will just say he has business premises and trades from there?
Who should the misuse of trade plates be reported to??

If you want to report the misuse of trade plates then you need to get onto the DVLA but i wouldnt expect overnight results, its a long winded process.

If you do report him and he does have registered premises then of course he will say that he trades from those premises, you are the one who has to prove he trades from home. Having people view a car at his home address does not constitute trading from home. I do this quite often if a potential customer lives closer to my home than my business i will take the car home and let him see it there.

As for the cars on his drive, its his drive and he can have however many cars will fit on there if he so wishes, nothing you can do about it.

Yes it is HIS drive but when he uses MY DRVE to turn around and manoeuvre cars because his drive is so full of cars then there is something I can do about it I hope you display a little more consideration to your neighbours when conducting your business then this @ss hole does to his.
Every stereotypical trait of a second hand wide boycar dealer this @ss hole has it in abundance.Yes there are good dealers out there(i have even bought off them) this @ hole is not one of them.
