Upgrade Iphone v Desire

Are you better to fight for an upgrade once your contract has run out or start a few weeks before.

Looking to upgarde to either iphone or HTC Desire, any advice on which is best???

iphone, only cos the nexus/desire i had was totally useless while out and about, couldnt see a damn thing on the screen in brightlight/sun.
Still a nice phone but just not for me.
