  • If you want one already built, try a manufacturer's site.. If your on the move, just buy a laptop which are more cheaper than PC's and easier to maintain.

If your tech savvy, you can built a machine that works like a beast and really cheaply but you will have to check compatibilities, find all the pieces and built it yourself.

Friend used palicomp before - useless company and shocking build imo

I had mine from Palicomp they do pester you after the sale for upgrades but i haggled and had a good deal.

But some people like PCworld others dont i would recomend Palicomp to people. If you go to their web site they have won a few awards from different PC mags.

You can please some of the people some of the time
but you can't please all of the people all of the time.

Is that your opinion based on fact or just how your "friend" felt. I got mine from them based on a referral from a work colleague who has had his for 12 months...... No faults, no build issues and to be honest I have recieved very good customer service (Just for the record)
The company also does well on ebay feedback as well..........

Friend had poor service regarding a fault from an expensive PC (for him anyway!). Palicomp weren't interested, so I had a look and resolved it for him. Build quality of the PC was very poor, cables were left loose and touching CPU fan, USB lines were not plugged in and PSU was the cheapest known possible, not a premium brand like he was promised and same with memory, not the Crucial brand he wanted (was some budget unbranded memory). As he wasn't very computer literate, he wouldn't have known if I hadn't opened it up. The only reason I didn't build it myself, was because I couldn't build it any cheaper than them (now I know why). The fight to get his cashback is worthy of a thread in its own right.

But hey, perhaps he was unlucky and they really do have customer support to put Apple to shame. Maybe if he pretended to be from a review magazine they might have put some effort in ;)

Have a look at play, mymemory and amazon :)
Bear in mind memory prices have risen due to the shocking UK fx rates...

What a star, thank you so much for your help. I thought that memory cards seemed to be v expensive, I remember buying 2GB for £2 a little while ago, now they are over a fiver!
    Thank you xx

Novatech do quite a large range of barebones systems (i.e. just the PC, no peripherals) with a fair few under the £300 mark.

They also do motherboard bundles if you fancy changing that yourself!

They're a reputable company with good reviews.
