Need a bit of help re. LHA/CTB/tax credits

Hiya,

I have received a notice re. my housing benefit that it is to drop as my WTC/CTC is to rise. This is true as I had an over/one off payment which was being deducted so I did not have an overpayment. My tax credits are due on 2nd of April at the deduction rate and the following payment on 30th April will be at my correct rate.

The notice I have received states from 1st April 2010 to 31 March 2011 my allowance is £52.45 whereas before it was £78.32 and my CTB (£6.97) has been stopped. I have telephoned the Council to say that my new tax credit payments are not going to start until end of April so it will leave me approx. £100 short over the month. The lady I spoke to did not seem to understand what I was saying and said I should just write in

Before I do write in, does anyone know if what they have said is correct or should it go from the amended payment, which I will not receive until the end of April?

Also, a second query I have is, when I put my figures into entitledto they say that my LHA and CTB should be roughly what I am currently receiving (not the new, lower amount). Would it be possible, if I gave you my figures, if anyone who could assist in seeing which is correct?

Many thanks for your help,

SF

xx

Post all your figures (income, benefits, savings, people) and I am sure someone will help.

    Thanks Vader

I have 3 children and no savings.

On my new award notice it states:

£249.66 per week net earnings (not now sure if this is accurate as have just worked it out roughly myself to be £231)

    £234.32 tax credit per week

    lone parent disregard -£25
childcare cost disregard - £89.50 (actual amount £100)
    tax credit disregard - £17.10
= net weekly income £352.38 (their figure)

    taken off this is

    lone parent allowance £65.45
    Dependant allowance £57.57 x 3
    Family premium £17.40

Applicable amount used to calculate benefit £255.56

Weekly housing benefit calculated as £52.45

    ________

I will have to double check my wage slips but I know I pick up £895 per month this includes a £45 travel loan, £14 union and other fee and around £68 pension payment.

    Thanks again x

Sorry I forgot to put that my LHA rate is £115.38 per week.

If anyone could help with my query I would be grateful.

It depends on the frequency of the tax credit payments. If you receive tax credits four-weekly, then the payments are made four weeks in arrears so the change would be made to your LHA from four weeks before.
