Chumana wrote:Hi there, sorry to see you've had some bad comments already in the thread and I really don't wish to add to those but I'm struggling to comprehend how the small amount of food you have on your list will stretch to feed three people for a month.
I've highlighted the main meat portions above which would make 10 meals, plus maybe the odd leftover. Now I suppose you could always make meals with the cheese but I don't see any other staples such as pasta, eggs, pulses etc to be able to create meals from (unless you already have those, although I note in one of your replies that you don't keep a storecupboard) and what do you eat for breakfast and lunch? And also notice there aren't any drinks listed, tea, coffee, fruit juice, squash etc?
I really don't mean to sound critical but just trying to figure out how you manage to do this on so little and hope to be able to pick up some tips2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -
troo wrote:Chumana, I think the meat is packs, not portions. So the pork is actually 4 packs, not 4 steaks. B_S does say somewhere in a previous post, but I'm too tired to look for it now, I'm falling asleep over the keyboard

I try to use vouchers when I can to cut down cost.
If I stop being able to do the above I'll shop online to get bonus points with codes.
I've tried those Tesco online codes before and they never work on my shopping.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -

I spend £34 on an online shop for heavy and frozen items. I go back a couple of times a week to buy cheap salad and fruit. How does that make me spend more than £45 a month?2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

I've asked for the thread to be closed now.
It served it's purpose and ran it's course. I put it on here to help people but it seems like most of the replies are trying to catch me out and make me realise I spend more than I say I do, which I don't. I know what my budget is and I stick to it.
I also won't be accused of malnourishing my children by a load of people who havn't even seen them. If you saw them you would realise how ludicrous that is.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -
Thanks BS, it is good to see how such frugal shops break down, it's a real help to me as i am looking to maximise the food i get from my shopping budget at the moment.
I have two meat based meals a week and the rest is vegetarian, omelettes, pasta, something with pulses like a chickpea burger etc etc. So i can understand that 10 family portions of meat lasts the month
and if someone can't treat themselves to some profiteroles having been debt free for two years, well I don't know what the world is coming to!
PS don't suppose you or your kids would consider eating porridge for breakfast? I changed to porridge oats last year, they're an absolute bargain and very good for you, they fill you up, lower cholesterol and you can add things like seeds or fruit to them to make them even better. But then I know alot of people can't stand the thought of it!Debt Oct 2005: £32,692.94

Hi B-S
Thanks for posititng this, I can't believe the amount of flack you are getting!!!I started to count the number of posts where you said you go back for fresh stuff but got bored there were so many! If people can't be bothered to read the whole thread or at least skim through it (there are enough references to going back that they would surely pick up one of them?) then I fail to see how they can hope to learn anything & should expect to get a bit of back-chat for asking dumb questions! Admitedly it isn't always clear exactly how much you are spending in total but you have explained it so many times in so many threads that we all forget that there will be an OS newbie somewhere who doesn't get it;). Anyway, I say well done you:T. I menu plan fortnightly & find that hard enough:p
I hope you don't mind a bit of constructive critisim : Personally I would find it easier if you posted your menu plan at the same time as your list. That way we can all see what you are doing with it & it becomes clear that it is 4 packs of pork not 4 pork chops & the like:rolleyes: Plus personally it would make it easier for me to nick your ideas:D. I do lift a lot of your ideas & adapt them to my requirements. Admitedly I only buy organic meat from the butcher, we drink tons of OJ & lemonade & my springer spaniel would wolf down a small bag of value food in about 2 days & still not be satisifed so my bill is considerably higher than yours but these things are my choices & it doesn't mean that I find your lists unhelpful or irrelevent to me:T. (In case your wondering I get a 15kg bag of bakers complete from the cash & carry every month for £17).
So thank you for having the patience for typing up all your info:A. And I don't think there is anything wrong with buying the occasional ready-made dessert;), anyone who puts in as much effort as you keeping all round costs down (for those of you who have been over to the families board there is a B-S thread about keeping her wedding costs low:p) deserves the occasional treat & night off from the kitchen! (Plus although HM profiterole pastry may be cheap, by the time you have factored in cream & chocolate it would probably be very nearly £2 anyway:rolleyes:)Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0
