I spend £34 on an online shop for heavy and frozen items. I go back a couple of times a week to buy cheap salad and fruit. How does that make me spend more than £45 a month?
without being perdantic to your posts, £34.83 for the shopping plus £3.99 delivery out of £45 is £6.18 for the rest of the month on fruit, veg, bread and milk for the rest of the month!

£10.17 for the rest of the month. I said I didn't count the delivery charge as being food.

Well I have liked reading your shopping list because I have always been amazed by your claims to manage on so little. Seeing the list then I can see immediately why this would not work for my husband and I, and why we spend so much more.

Personally I would get really bored eating the same food every week for a month, and it doesn't sound like there in much variety in your other meals either. I'm not sure this quantity of food would be enough for us either, but then we buy alot of fresh fruit and veg (at least 3 items of fruit each a day, plus veg at dinner and tomatoes/carrot sticks with lunch, or something like roast mixed veg and cous cous). We obviously couldn't manage that on 6.18 a month to 'top up' the main shop. In fact we'd probably spend more than half that on milk alone!
  • Morning B-S. I'm really sorry, I was hoping my previous post would have answered all queries to stop this happening as this is the second post I've read where people question the amount you spend and how you feed your children.

I really hope you do keep posting because I use some of your receipes. They are so helpful. I take the basis of some of these meals and add in additional veg or go for the reduced fat mince (honestly can't get out of the diet habit even after losing my 6stone :rotfl: ) or adapt in some way that will meet my needs. Surely this is what it's all about

I really don't think any of us should be telling B-S how to feed her children. It's none of our business.

Hi BS, keep up the good work. I like your ideas. I read the Tightwad Gazette recently and saw in it that Amy(the author) was shown guidelines for how much she should spend per person depending on their age in her household. She couldn't get it to work out for her even though she was quite frugal, eventually she discovered that the governments figures were based on weekly food amounts whereas hers were monthly. You sound quite like her, an inspiration to us. We don't have to follow you exactly but its nice to know it can be done!! I just wonder does our Government supply such figures here?

Thanks BS for being brave enough to post your monthly shopping list. I can't understand the flack you've had, when you're only responding to people who have asked to see your list. I'm sure that the list doesn't take into account anything you might have left over from the previous month. (I bought a huge bag of pasta on bogof that lasted me nearly 4 months) and any fussy eaters. Your list would probably change month to month anyway, so good on you for doing so well.

I don't know if people are aware , but tinned tuna does not count as an oily fish - fresh tuna does and tinned salmon, mackerel etc. it is the only one.
