Bank hol ideas?

Ok- My fiance and I have been having a pretty stressful time so far this year as selling houses and trying to mediate family for our wedding in June amonst other things.
I have the Easter holiday off- it will be first time in over 2 years I have more than one day off!!

Basically I want us to have a weekend together- but doing things that will take our minds off things.
We are pretty money tight until we sell a house- so ideas please for activities that will not cost much.

Can't go biking as have just sold my bike on ebay!!
We used to go window shopping but this has lost its appeal now we are trying to get rid of everything in the house so we can move!
Live in greater Manchester area.........

Any ideas folks?

  • Depends what you're into but

Fancy any of these places for walks?: http://www.gmpte.com/journey_planning/places_to_go.cfm

Or if you like Museums etc: the Imperial War Museum of the North, or the Central Manc Art Gallery, or the Museum of Science and Industry, or Manchester Museum. These are all free.

If you don't mind spending something, how about a national trust property? http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-global/w-localtoyou/w-northwest.htm

    Good luck!

Agree about National Trust - Tatton Park and Dunham Massey are both worth a day out. Take a picnic, enjoy the gardens etc.

Weather depending but what about going to Formby and walking on the sand dunes/feeding the red squirrels? Also you could go see Gormley's scupltures on the beach. Would agree about the National Trust properties, there's also Lyme Park near Stockport.

Only thing about all the weather dependent ones is if it is nice, there will be lots of crowds!

As for home, do you often cook or does your partner? If it's your partner, what about doing a really nice meal for her?

    too many comps..not enough time!

You are surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenary in the UK, great walks from your own front door, if the weather doesn't go back 3 months LOL...
You can get some leaflets with Rossendale walks from the Tourist Info Centere( Rawtenstall Library)

Ribble Valley is a few miles away also great for walking.

OMG!! sorry I always cook (I am a she) and there is no way I am letting OH attempt it- more mess and trouble than worth.
Cooking is NOT going to be on the agenda- I work as a chef!!:rotfl:

    Weather is so rubbish:(

Thanks for the ideas through- would be a good one if i didn't spend my life in the kitchen- well when I am not training or massaging people!!:o
