Is it illegal, or just against the hospital's rules?

But if you are in receipt of benefits - income support, working tax credit etc you are able to get a refund. Try taking your ticket to the General Office within the hopspital for reimbursement.
.........If there are other circumstances you can always write to the chief executive of the hospital.

Trix - Are you sure the above doesn't apply to DLA as well? It seems wrong that you should be paying when you have to go to a certain hospital and regularly.

I can't believe this thread is still open.

    @ Diggingout.

I am correct totally - not partly.

    @ troo.

    What is the difference?

    @Fran

I hope your son is better. All NHS Trusts have to hot the 90% 4 hour rule in A&E, i.e. all patients walking through the door must be seen and admitted / discharged within 4 hours. This increases to 95% and 100% in subsequent years.

This is not cheap - and if you keep dodging car parking fees you might wait 6 hours next time.

No, not totally. Because it is a an immoral disgrace to charge for parking at hospitals. >:(

    Doesn't justify cheating, though. :(
I have five stars! This doesn't mean that I know anything about any of the things I post. I could be a raving lunatic, or a brilliant genius, or just some guy on the internet. In fact, I could be all three at the same time.

If anything I say makes sense, then do it. If not, don't. Don't blame me or my stars if you do something stupid because I suggested it. I'm responsible for my own stupidity only. You are responsible for yours.

Why, I don't even have five stars anymore! Aren't you glad you aren't responsible for my stupidity?

Whether or not it is a disgrace that you have to pay to park is beside the point.
The point Hospital Accountant makes is that tickets are not transferrable.
My local hospital does not operate "Pay and Display" but "Pay on exit" where the ticket received at the entrance barrier must be inserted into the pay machine. Therefore it is impossible to transfer the ticket to another user.
If people want to avoid parking charges why don't they travel by bus?

The 'pay on exit' is a much better system. Then you've only paid for what you use. I was annoyed at having to pay for 4 hours, when I'm only parked for 2 hours.

I went off topic a bit, didn't I? :-[ I tend to do that. I'm one of those people who says 'yes, but.....' ;D

If you're going to accident and emergency this is a bit harsh and assumes you live near a hospital and that your local transport is efficient, and that you are ok being jolted about a bit. ???

Well, I agree Fran, It is not always practical to go by bus. It depends under what circumstances or time of day you are travelling to hospital.
When I had to go to physio every week, bus was the only option. I couldn't drive with my knackered leg.

Fran - I really don't know. I know that because I'm claiming working tax credits I used to be able to claim back travel expenses, but it involved going to another area of the hospital, remembering my award certificate, filling in a form...after being there for so long and needing to get back to get my other daughter from school I didn't really have the time. I was just shocked at how much it cost.

On which point he is entirely correct.

When someone is critically ill this is often not a good option for their family members. To charge people for parking in such situations is a disgrace.

It isn't beside the point because he defended it.
