The basic premise of the thread was for an illegal activity.

Can't argue with that. Martin does say somewhere 'no illegal suggestions'.

It's just that it's so expensive to use the car parks, it's no wonder people try to find a moneysaving way around it. That's what the site is for ;)

I have to agree with the accountant on this one.........it is an illegal activity as it states "not Transferable."..............................Charging at all for hospital car parks in my view is wrong but they do, so it is still illegal :-/
For the hospitals to get over this problem they need to install those machines where you have to input the registration

PS What I do is park on the nearest road not the carpark but not everyone can do that for various reasons :)

I still think it should be free. Just because it happens like that now, I don't see why that can't change. Parking should be free for National Health Service car parks whether for patients or visitors.

It's not as if there is even a good service that you are paying for in some of them. In Newport, S.Wales, if you turn up for an appointment, expect it to be disrupted. There are always queues to get into the car park of at least 20 cars and they have to employ people to direct the traffic as it's not clear that you have to join the queue and otherwise people would be blocking the main road. You do have to pay for it, but when I took my son there I didn't bother waiting to find out how much, but found a free space on the road outside. Unfortunately though of course local residents complain because hospital visitors park outside their houses. There is no excuse for poor planning.

That isn't possible near the Heath Hospital (University Hospital) in Cardiff. You can't get anywhere near as it's all been changed to residents' parking. (Believe me I have tried as it's expensive in the car park!) Also it's right next to a major dual carriageway. I know it's expensive in the car park (the amount's been mentioned before but I can't remember it).

Guess it depends where you live , I have never had any problems with my three main hospitals and finding spaces outside them

Yes it should be free but that is down to the government again.........................fund the NHS properly and don't tell them to get extra revenue from parking

Another for the discussion boards prehaps :)

The NHS is a publicly funded service. All the investment going into it at the moment is for a return on improved efficiency and lower waiting times.

Making parking free would cost too much to put right at the moment and isnt a priority - and i come back to my point about town centre NHS facilities.

The trouble is that space is usually at a premium on most hospital sites as they are surrounded by houses.

The onus will be on NHS Trusts to demonstrate how they plan to deal with car parking for aptients when they apply to become an NHS Foundation Trust.

Anyway - this is getting political.

Car parking is not free and the "tip" in this thread is illegal.

    They are the facts.

Well last year I had to take my son to hospital with a suspected broken nose and he had to wait about 5 hours. So "improved efficiency" and "lower waiting times" isn't working very well. What really annoyed me though was having to pay for the car park as well.

    Of course it's political.

Due to the fact you have pointed out it's illegal, I'm sure none of us will be trying that now. ( ;))

    Hospital Accountant is correct (partly).

It is a disgrace to charge parking at hospitals, but it is illegal to cheat.
I have five stars! This doesn't mean that I know anything about any of the things I post. I could be a raving lunatic, or a brilliant genius, or just some guy on the internet. In fact, I could be all three at the same time.

If anything I say makes sense, then do it. If not, don't. Don't blame me or my stars if you do something stupid because I suggested it. I'm responsible for my own stupidity only. You are responsible for yours.

Why, I don't even have five stars anymore! Aren't you glad you aren't responsible for my stupidity?

I usually did this 'pass it around' ticket game but didn't realise it was illegal :o

My local hospital has a free 20 min pick up / drop off point and doesn't charge blue badge holders to park anywhere. One of the main hospitals in Newcastle however doesn't have any of this. My daughter goes for regular treatments / check-ups etc and even though she has a blue badge we had to pay £5.30 for our four hour visit last week (sorry - 4 hours and fifteen minutes which then put us in the 5 hours charge bracket >:()
    I'm a little angel o:)BUT A WHOLE LOTTA DEVIL
