Hi everyone, my B.I.L. has a laptop, Medion E5211, he uses ethernet connection at home but when I tried to connect to my wireless network I couldn't. As I have a Mac I am not familiar with windows, plus the wireless symbol bottom right of screen has a red cross through it. So does he have wireless capability and if so how do I set it up? If he doesn't is it a cheap, easy job to install?

Ensure the wireless is switched on the laptop(inverted triangle) should be 2 screens bottom right of screen, right clich these, then connect to a network > find your network > connect > enter your signin details, should then connect , AlanEvery day when I wake up I thank the Lord I'm WELSH. .0

Thanks for reply, no triangles visible, just "pan pipes" with a red cross over them. When I click I can open network sharing but cannot connect to the wireless network.0

Is your wireless adapter enabled, both in control panel -> system->device manager, and via any button on the laptop (either a switch or a button)?0

Sorry, I must be missing something. I can go to Control panel>Connect to internet>How do you want to connect>Wireless and get the message "Not connected, no connections available"
So what next?0 -
Forgive me for asking what may seem to be a stupid question but how far are you from the AP and can you connect to it from your Mac in that same position?
You were asked to check that the wireless was turned on and I don't see any confirmation of that. If it is then there would usually be a LED lit signifying that - unfortunately the symbols used vary but will usually have a t least a couple of concentric arcs either side of some central feature (maybe a mini Eiffel tower sort of thing or in the case of my own netbook a tiny representation of an open netbook).0 -
I have the Medion laptop on a table next to my Macbook which is getting a max strength signal. As I keep asking HOW do I turn on the wireless? I cannot find any buttons and when I try to activate with the control panel I get the no connections available! So does this computer have wireless capability? How do I find this out?0

OK, laptop manual can be found here http://www1.medion.de/downloads/download.pl?id=7523&type=anleitungen&filename=bda_40029688.pdf&lang=uk
Having read page 50 it would seem you need to hold down the left 'Fn' key then press 'F1' to toggle the wifi on and off.0 -
Come on now - actually reading a manual would be considered cheating by some
BTW - Loved the Fjords0 -
lol! :rotfl:0

Thanks for your answer but I still cannot get it to work! Pressing Fn + F1 brings up Wireless Status Operation but when I try to click On for wireless it refuses to register.
Wish I had the manual! Thanks for the online link but think this laptop does not have the wireless card? So how to upgrade? Is it expensive?0
