Don’t really see why you have deleted the OP as the answer is simple…….
You’ll have agreed to buy the car for a total price of £x,
If you’ve paid £x in total then you are in the clear,
If you’ve only paid £x - £2k then a mistake has been made which the dealer is going to try and get rectified.
Whether he can make you pay the extra depends on the details of the mistake0 -

I agree. It hasn't exactly got heated so far has it?0 -
Clearly the OP wasn't getting the answers they would like, so they've run off and taking their ball with them.0

Modern wonder that is the web means all is not lost.:-
Dealer asking for more money 4 months later after taking the car.
Im wondering if anyone can help me as im a bit lost with what to do.
we bought a car last year and put down a deposit, I wasn't there at the time so wasn't aware of what was agreed. When we collected the car we signed all the documents and went on our way. However the dealer has now contacted us 4/5 month later telling us they forgot to take the remainder of the deposit. I thought we'd paid the deposit but they state that there was extra to pay upon collection.
The trouble is things are a bit tight at the moment as im on maternity leave and self employed so the money isn't like what it was back then and im worried!
Can they really ask for this so far down the line? We did exactly as they asked, signed every finance form etc it is there mistake so why should I get myself in debt because they made a mistake.
Before anyone asks why my husband didn't pick up on it, was that he went and did the deal with the dealer and everything was agreed but then he realised that the salesperson had made a major !!!! up with the part ex i.e. not included in the price! So the figures were all wrong and reworked out but in the confusion he thought it was just the initial deposit. He said if he'd been asked for an extra deposit then we would have worked something out there and then.
If we have to pay it can we come to some sort of arrangement or get it discounted?
Any advise would be gratefully received and I certainly will be more careful about dealers in future!!!!0 -
Not at all, I wasn't throwing my teddy out at all ive just seen on here that threads can sometimes get quite heated/nasty and that wasn't what I wanted at all so thought it maybe best to delete the thread so it didn't go that way.
I did post a comment before I deleted to show that i accepted peoples answers etc
I have nothing to hide I was just after advice not a slanging match.
Im not a argumentative person quite the opposite in fact and try to avoid things like that at all costs hence why i didn't want it to snowball.
You have your opinion and yes we seriously got things wrong and didn't read things clearly. As i said I will sort out the mistake and hoped that would be the end of the matter.0
