Compensation-Argos

Hi all,
I'm new to posting so forgive me if this isn't in the correct place. I'd like advise as I ordered a leather recliner sofa from Argos on the 18th May and was told it would be delivered within 30 days but it was not delivered until the 5th July due to delay in them receiving stock. I rang the customer services to complain about the inconvienience in having to wait so long and also to inform them that their delivery driver did not call half an hour before delivery as I was told they would. I was told they could only offer me £25 in gift vouchers as compensation with her but if I wished to write in I could. I wrote in explaining the whole situation also explaining that we had been without a sofa for 2 weeks during this time. I received a letter back telling me that £25 in gift vouchers was their limit for goodwill and unless we had been financially troubled and had documentation to prove this then they could offer no more.
I was a bit disgusted by this but wanted to know if anyone else had received compensation for late deliveries from argos or advise as to what other money savers would do next. Should I just accept the £25 voucher? Maybe I am just being silly but I like to think that spending £500 at their store and being inconvienienced deserves more than £25.
All advise gratefully accepted.

I'm currently waiting for a promised "compensation form" from Argos after delivery drivers rang on the day to say that our wardrobes had fallen over in teh van and broken and did we want the bits!!!!
They were finally delivered weeks later than the advertised time and now we are battling to get a replacement door for one of them as it was damaged.
Getting no helpful response on the phone whatsoever (and I'm not abusive or anything on the phone) so have sent a letter and emailed them saying that 3 months to complete the order is too long.
Not had any response since automatic acknowledgement of the e-mail on Thursday..... :rolleyes:working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
"did you want the bits" That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard. I really hope you get somewhere with them, newlywed, I think their attitude to deliveries stinks, they just seem to quote 'subject to availability' and think it covers everything......well it's just not acceptable. Good luck.:rotfl: "Light travels faster than sound, which is why some people appear bright until they speak":rotfl:0

I didn't deanos but I did tell them that I had on account of the original order stating delivery within 30 days!:rotfl: "Light travels faster than sound, which is why some people appear bright until they speak":rotfl:0 -
£25 compensation is not that bad really, after all you havent actually had any financial loss because of the incident - the most we legally ever paid for "inconvenience" is £10 and that included cases that went to court.
The other consideration is that the length of time for delivery of the item, whilst longer than their target, is not that bad compared to other companies and you could argue that a "budget" purchase would be a lower priorityAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

I agree that £25 is a good amount for a £500 sofa. You've not suffered any tangible loss. I'd take the money and buy something useful with it.
Were you really without a sofa for two weeks? What did you do for seating for the 30 previous days prior to the original scheduled delivery date?

Thanks for the replies guys. While I agree that it probably is best to take the gift vouchers on account of it not being that long in terms of deliveries, I still don't think it's acceptable service. And just because something is classed as 'budget' doesn't mean the service should be less good.
Mr Cow, I wasn't without a sofa at all but thought it may add weight to my case with argos......you see I was going to ring to have my old sofa taken away but decided not to just in case argos didn't fulfill their 30 day deadline....lucky I didn't really.:rotfl: "Light travels faster than sound, which is why some people appear bright until they speak":rotfl:0 -
I think Argos are covered in there T+C's which you accepted upon ordering goods
3.2 Delivery charges and estimated timescales are specified in the Home delivery information section and also when you place an order. We make every effort to deliver goods within the estimated timescales, however delays are occasionally inevitable due to unforeseen factors. Argos shall be under no liability for any delay or failure to deliver the products within estimated timescales.0 -

lol You want to try Wickes who were still delivery bits of my £3k kitchen four weeks after the due date.
The point I was trying to make is that this happens all the time. Often you get nothing back, except perhaps the right to cancel the entire order. By all means carry on complaining to Argos, but IMO their customer service isn't generally up to much and I don't know if you'll get much further than what you've already been offered.
If it were me, I'd enjoy the £25 and put it behind me.
Take care."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
