My fella, fully intact, 2 years now (wow...), swaps between the two, though usually even with the squat one leg slightly rises. However, it took him well past 10 months to regularly !!!! his leg, maybe even a year. Downright embarrassing
, I'm not sure, but I think being around other males and observing them do it whilst playing may have helped inspire him into realising that cocking his leg means he can pee higher.
We have a lot of females around us that !!!! their legs, and I suspect this is because of the males around.0 -
my dog is 2yr old and only cocks his leg occasionally ,I didnt think it was anything to worry about0

I know a male dog that lifts his leg to poo too.. now THAT is weird to see.. I wouldn't worry too much, he'll either do it or he won't.. you can't really do much about this one!0

We've always had mainly girl dogs keeping only one male dog at a time here and all the boys have squatted rather than cocked almost exclusively: I presume because they've had no reason to !!!! nothing to scent over and squatting therefore has been sufficient as a marker and no other boy dogs to show them an alternative or get in to ''how high, how far'' competitions with
Its nothing to worry about at all had no health repercussions that I have heard of and is certainly not uncommon. 0 -
Poochie does the same as the lab but when he used to spend time with a male dog he cocked his leg up. If he tiddles downhill he often ends up with it all over his paws lol.
I'm not worried, I just find it amusing :-)Yaaay, I finally conned a man into making a honest woman of me. Even more shocking is that I can put the words "Happily" and "Married" into the same sentence and not have life insurance on my mind when I say it ;-)0 -
We used to have a little JR rescue boy who would only poo if he could back up a wall or fence, actually with his two back legs up the wall - lol. Couldnt understand what he was doing when we first got him back from the home but thats how he pooed.
Boy dogs often dont !!!! for a year or more and even then mine still occasionally squat.0 -
