I too have an A&L current account and I got the letter - is it worth having a moan - A&L is run by MBNA so if you cancel remember to move any credit limit over to anther MBNA card if you have one...

Martin's original comments were inaccurate - it's not "current account/mortgage/any other account", it's PREMIER current account or mortgage customers who will continue to get cashback.

And wiggy, they didn't ask you to set up a DIRECT DEBIT for your cashback. That would make no sense! They might have asked for your bank details so they can do a DIRECT CREDIT! But as another poster said, I think they are now paying the cashback direct into the credit card account, so they wouldn't need bank details at all. ???
  • I'll watch with interest(!) what happens with the Abbey cashback card also backed by MBNA. Would put my cash back allowance on it going the same way.....
  • I agree with markymarkd, I have just spoken to someone at Alliance and Leicester and they said you have to have a premier current account which means a minimum deposit of £500 per month into the account, or a mortgage account, I told them I have an ordinary current account and a saving account and they said it didn't matter how much was in the saving account it didn't qualify, so they have just lost my custom, and probably a lot of other peoples custom as well.
look after the pennies and the pounds look after themselves.

I had my letter last Friday and was on the phone to cancel my card 30 seconds later. They asked the reason and I told them its because they have reduced the cashback. They did not seem bothered at all. I said "You will be getting a lot of these calls to cancel" to which the lady on the line just agreed! Not much of a way to attract business, but I suspect these "fat cats" make enough from others.
I am NOT a mortgage & insurance adviser - or anything to do with finance, that was put on by the new system I dont know why?!
  • Just to point out that A&L cashback cards were sold to MBNA a few years ago.
Therefore I do not see the connection between losing cashback and not having any other A&L products. How would MBNA get to know this without A&L providing them with information which would surely be illegal under the Data protection act.

Don't cancel you card until you have the cashback they owe you

I'm sure I read that you will loose your cashback if you close your account, be carful at least.

Just had my cash back which wasnt much as I have been using Morgan Stanley card at 1% CB. Therefore nothing has been lost.

They probably already know who has either an A&L Preimer or Premier Plus account, as your card is a MoneyBack Plus Credit Card, where as stanard ones are just MoneyBack Credit Cards.

Therefore its probably the MoneyBack Credit Card that is having its moneyback removed.

I have the stanard MoneyBack Card, and was quite suprised last week too when the sent me a replcement card, even though my existing one has another 18 months or so to run anyway - Once the MoneyBack stops though (although I've yet to have a letter), I'll almost certainly stop using it anyway!
completed Uni in 2004 without any student debt - woohoo!

I use the A+L cashback card for all my excess spending over my Barclaycard 0% limit. Got worried when I saw the title of this thread, but have a Premier Current account and mortgage with A+L so should be okay.
