Alliance & Leicester has written to some of its Moneyback card customers who don't have any other A&L products with it, to say they're losing the cashback almost immediately.

I had this letter, but I had already decided to stop using Alliance & Leicester anyway, their cachback had been reducing all the time and if you need to contact them their automated phone system takes an age (2m 30s) until you can actually have an option to speak to a person.

I have a Amex Card and my backup card is now a Morgan Stanley Platinum (£12.50 cash back with greasy palm, if you ever get it)

got 2 cards. if they stop the cash back i will deff cancel the cards. cant see any reason to keep them. i pay all my balance by pay by date anyway so y keep it. there are better cards there
  • I do not understand what you mean by "with any other A & L products with it" Martin. I have not received this letter. I am stunned.

    OK to clarify

If you have an A&L card and no other A&L products then you will (or should) get a letter telling you cashback is going

If you havea mortgage/current account (etc for most products) and an A&L cashback card, you should be able to keep the card :)

Received my letter today - my cashback ends 28th feb. Had just upped my credit limit as I was intending to pay for my new car in March using this card. I will have to revise my carefully worked out schedule!
  • I received the "cancellation of cash back" at the weekend.

Two days later I received a piece of junk mail from them saying that I could now set up a direct debit for my cash back.

I therefore phoned them and they said that I could continue to receive cashback if I went to my local branch and signed up for a new current account!

    Think I'll just cancel
    Titch :)
  • A+L have obviously been reading the books and articles on customer profiling and have decided that us canny investors who chose their card for a good rate in the first place (but no other products) are no longer worth doing business with.

So, another one bites the dust as I'll be ditching them too. And that means that they can't keep my details and will (finally) stop sending me unwanted mail about credit card cheques, loans, accounts etc.

Thanks for the warning Martin - not yet received the letter but I will expect to soon!

We got our statement yesterday and with it was a leaflet to tell us that the cashback will now be a direct payment into our credit card account. This has already been done. We have no other accounts with them but have always paid our balance in full evey month. Have not received a seperate letter about it stopping altogether.
  • Our letter came at the weekend cashvack to finish at end of Feb, both the wife and I have a card from the same account, although she does have a current account with A&L, the credit card is in my name. I can feel a change of cards coming!!
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not sure!
  • I am a little annoyed, I have an A&L cashback card, I also have a A&L current account and a savings account with them, I still got the letter saying my cash back was finishing, I phoned them as soon as I received the letter and they just said everyone was losing cash back and it wasnt just me, now I read martins post and see that it says only people without any other accounts are losing the cash back. I will phone them again now and query it. they could lose all my trade. I will post again when I have spoken to them
