PC to TV?

Hi
I've just purchased a 22" lcd tv, and been given a 3 year old Medion Multi Media Home Entertainment Design Centre, I presume I can connect it to the aforesaid TV - but can someone tell me how please. I haven't any cables.

Thanks in anticipation

If the HDMI port available in both TV and PC then you can connect easily viz HDMI cable.

Hopefully your PC will have either a DVI or HDMI output socket.

Assuming your TV has a HDMI input you'll need an HDMI cable or DVI to HDMI cable (both should cost around £3 online).

Either the above options will give you a high quality digital feed, you could go VGA at a push but the quality will be lower and I've noticed cables a tad more expensive.... in that case you might want to invest in a graphics card for the PC that supports HDMI or DVI

    Hi All
    Thanks for feedback already received.

I have all 3 output sockets so HDMI seems the way to go.

My next question is.... can I watch a TV programme on the TV from the PC and still surf the net on my PC monitor? (Hope that makes sense)

    Thanks :)

That shouldn't be an issue if your PC has dual monitor support - which I assume it will have anyway. Simply open the TV application and the Internet Browser in two separate windows and position them on the separate screens.

In theory yes, I have a very similar setup and you might come across the following issues:

My setup: PC has graphics card with 2x DVI outputs, I have a 24" monitor with DVI in and 42" TV with HDMI in fed from it in dual monitor mode.

Your PC may or may not support outputting sound along the HDMI cable, if you are not able to configure this you might need a second cable running from your PC to a suitable sound output device (eg the TV, the TVs separate surround sound system, speakers etc), this can be 3.5mm to 3.5mm stereo headphone like cable (from £2 online) or digital optical cable (from £10 online) if you can support optical I/O.

you can quite comfortably drag your TV/DVD software window to the TV and do other stuff on the 2nd screen, be aware anything you do that makes noise will come out of the TV speakers too (ie you'll get TV sound + windows clicking sounds/beeps and might need to fiddle a bit with sound levels etc if thats not to your liking)

If you treat yourself to a Bluray player drive (£50ish online) your graphics card and monitor will need to support HDCP to play commercial HDCP protected blurays

I'm a pest I know (sorry :o) - I think getting the HDMI cable should be my first move - now I've had a look on ebay, and wow! totally swamped by the choice! Can anyone point out which would be best for me (not necessarily the cheapest) and it needs to be at about 5m.

I really do appreciate your time and advice everyone.

    Thank you again
