Cheapest Payg for receiving calls when in the EU

Options
Hi there,
My girlfriend is going travelling in the summer and we're looking for the cheapest way to stay in touch. She won't be in each country for more than a couple of days so local sims are a bit pointless. Does anyone know what the cheapest payg for receiving calls when in the EU is?

Thanks

They all have pretty similar rates now, since they're all capped at around 35p to make a call and 18p to receive one.

The only differences between the networks are things like Vodafone Passport. If you think most of the calls made will be over 2 minutes long and most of the calls received will be over 3 or 4 minutes long then the 75p connection charge becomes quite attractive and then you're charged at the home rate. If you had a freedom pack with minutes, it'd use those minutes to make calls (+75p for each call) and receiving calls would be free (+75p connection)

    Other networks:

3: 38p/min (minimum 30 seconds) and 15p/min to receive (no minimum), 11p text

    O2: 35p, 18p, 11p (not sure about minimums)

Vodafone (without Passport): 38p, 18p, 11p (not sure about minimums)

    Orange: 40p, 18p, 10p

    T-mobile: 43p, 19p, 11p

So I was wrong - they're not as similar as I thought.

I'd probably recommend O2 or Vodafone. Or 3 if you're spending a long time in Ireland as they have a special 10p/minute rate for Ireland.

    Regards,
    Jamie

I'd also recommend "my europe extra" with o2

    http://www.o2international.co.uk/callingfromoverseas/myeurope_extra.aspx#payandgo

£10 a month in the eu or £5 a month in spain gives 1000 mins of ic calls at no cost and a reduced rate for og calls
  • Thank you all so much for your help - I'm going to look into the O2 deal. Sounds excellent.

    Thanks Again
