Hi, I had this problem and in the End decided to have a plastic or acrylic one. My plumber told me this would be better because steel baths are
notorious for getting dented, they don't hold heat as well as acrylic as they are naterally better conductors and steel baths are much heavier making them harder to position / install. I got a trojan plastics bath from my local a merchant called Plumbing World. I collected mine but I believe they deliver anywhere, but i'm not sure what they charge. I can't post there site because im new but you can search "Plumbing World Midlands" on google.
  • I would go for a high quality acrylic bath every time, but a good quality one can cost £300 plus, cheaper versions can be found in the DIY sheds but are generally thinner which can cause the bath to flex and in extreme cases break the silicone seal round a bath.

Steel baths are great value for money but do not hold heat very well.

If you have the budget - Acrylic. If you want value for money - Steel

I have had both and at the cheaper end of the market I would definitely go for steel. I have steel at moment and it is so much better than the plastic one we had before.

Thanks all for your help, and the tip about Plumbers World - I think I've read positive posts about that company on this forum before so will do a little research.

Do you tend to buy the whole suite, or buy a bath and then get a toilet/sink which isn't necessarily all part of one set.

that very much depends on the style of suite you choose, Steel baths don't come in anywhere near the same ranges as the acrylic.

If you are going for a fairly simple design then you shouldn't have a problem, but if you are going for some of the more modern designs with squared edges then you may find it hard to match.

Are you planning on doing this yourself or are you intending to get a bathroom fitter in? if so i would hold off on the purchases and let them give you some advice, they may well be able to source you a discount

We want to keep it really simple stylewise, do not want a design of any sort on the suite.

I was thinking we'd get a plumber to come and do it, but my other half thinks he can manage it himself although he's not done this before

    :)

I've been taking a look today at suites and Screwfix has this suite for £179 (Steel)

    http://www.screwfix.com/prods/64147/Bathrooms-Showers/Baths-Suites/Bathroom-Suites/Grove-De-Luxe-Bathroom-Suite-White#

Or Ostel Suite with Acrylic Bath for £199 which is half price

I have to say I like the simple style of the Ostel one and it seems a really bargain at £199 for the lot.

I guess if we do go with this one, the next step would be to get the taps, etc. Is screwfix just as good a place as any to get these too?

I'm tempted to get the Ostel Suite with Acrylic Bath for £199 which is half price, however there is not a picture of the bath - would you buy one without seeing it?

I've seen the screwfix bathroom set on moneysupermarket site too, I'm very tempted to order it but not sure why there is not a picture of the bath.

    Plus on other sites :

    http://www.diyfixit.co.uk/shop-buy-online/bathrooms-and-showers/suites/ostel-suite-with-acrylic-bath-166532.html

I know there isn't a picture but am still considering it - I'm imagining it will be quite simple like the other items on display, does anyone else think this is a good deal?

I'll need to get some taps for the bath and sink too..
