Popped into Somerfield for some milk and couldn't resist a reduced to clear chunky kit kat easter egg (75p....the two chunky kit kats inside brought by themselves would be over a £1!). Mmmm...chocolate :) So £1.63 spent today.

  • Evening all,

have caught up and will update sig now.

I havent been near a shop in a few days except to Mr T for phone credit and luncheon meat, oh and half price Hagen Dazs if anyone is interested, yummy!

However i have sent hubby to Co op for half price chickens and have sent him Mr T for something too that i cant remember, probably milk, but he hasnt kept the receipts but i didnt get change from a tenner so that is what i will update sig by as i havent bought anything else.

His car was MOTs the other day and had to pay £130 altogether so could have been worse i suppose, tomorrow my car is having repairs done that will cost about £50, so its been an expensive week for cars, and my tax is due at the end of the month and my MOT next month so am desperately trying to put spare pennies in what has now become the car repairs savings account! Gosh i wish we didnt rely on them for work, id get rid tomorrow:(

Never mind, so long as MSE is still here we will be fine im sure!

    Night all xx

My family is similar :), do you have a cash & carry you can get to? We buy 20kg bags of spuds for £4 from there for example.
I also think you are doing extremly well on £120 per week though!

  • Hi,
new to grocery challenge - what do I do? (confused.com)
Shall I wait for the May one to start? or shall I say £150 for the rest of the month. Can someone tell me if I am included?? Or do I just put it in my signature?

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to 'keep hold' of posts which I will find interesting in the future but haven't got time to read now.... I spotted a list of loads and loads of recipes (I think) at the beginning of this thread but I haven't time to look properly tonight as I am meant to be studying and it's past my bedtime too - been on here 3 hours now!

There's so much to keep track of - I have threads on here, clothes challenge, and 2 in DFW and they drop down the boards so quickly - never to be found again... :rotfl:

    Any advice - gratefully received....

    Hi mrsgreentoad,
Might sound obvious, but doing your shopping online really does save a lot of money, well it has for me.
Also cooking in a slow cooker, you can get cheap cuts of meat, put them in the slow cooker with lots of veg etc and make a very good meal and there is usually some left over for the next day if you're lucky.
Totally agree with finnagin about the spuds as they cost a fortune in the shops esp if you use them a lot,so buying a big sack is a good idea.
    Good luck and welcome xxx

I think £120 for 3 adults and 4 kids is very good, it works out at about £17 a week or £2.50 a day for each person. I spend not much less than that for 2 adults and a 16 year old.

How about having a "cheap" day each week, something like a big pan of soup with home-made bread, jacket potato with beans or egg & chips for dinner?

  • Do you have Aldo or Lidl nearby for cheaper veg, milk and chilled meats etc?
