Online is good if you have a strict budget to stick to.

You can see your running total while you shop, so can remove items if needed to ensure you are within budget.

Saves any embarrassment at the check out :o
I like the idea of this

Hi I'm not sure, i used to shop at Tesco and also Sainsbury.s on line.
It did save me time as all my usual things are saved in favourites. The thing that used to grate me was sometimes they forgot to deliver things and added substitutes which i didn't really like, i know you can reject the items but sometimes i needed the ingredients for a recipe etc. Also some of the stuff was near the out of date limit. I went shopping at Sainsburys at the weekend and saved my self quite a bit of money as i could see the reduced items, which you can't online. 1pnt of semi skimmed mild was reduced from 33p to 5p so i worked out that the normal 6pnts which is £1.62 actually cost me 30p by buying 6x1pt cartons, bought loads. I have frozen them so have made quite a saving also 5 chicken portions was £5.30 reduced to 30p.
Made a curry out of that and its also in the freezer. So i would say sometimes going out to the shop I/P would be cheaper in the long run. All my shopping came to £71.55p not bad as i thought that it was going to be alot more than that. Told OH that that is our monthly shopping allowance until 1st Sept... so no sneaking off to the Co-op to buy beers, as ive included his beers as well that made him smile.

I've never shopped online and to be honest am not very tempted by it. I love the reduced section, for example last night we got reduced spinach, mushrooms, avocados and a mango. We have a freezer full of reduced meat/fish at home as well. I think I would get more tempted by treats filling a virtual trolley in than seeing it all before me.

I've only done an online shop once and I did more damage with that one shop than with any supermarket shop. I'm terrible with forgetting that online purchases also mean you have spent money too and so I forget all about the transaction which inevtiably leads me to go over my spending budget by the end of the month. So, if you're like me, one of those people who has trouble equating on line purchasing with money coming out of your bank account then I'd stay clear!!

Also, we didn't buy any fresh produce as we were worried about best before dates.

I've just started to do it for the big shop, eg when we're running out of tins, washing power and meat etc. It takes a while to do on dial up so I find I am more likely to just follow my list and choose the items we need without going down the buiscuit and cake aisle saying, oooh that looks good!! and adding it to the basket! ;)

However, although it's easy to see your favourites on offer, you have to go through all the other offer pages to check if a different pack of mince works out cheaper, so a bit swings and roundabouts.

Plus I find that as I'm not walking round everything, I'm not reminded of the things that aren't on my list so then I find I've forgotten something and need to go to the shops in the week anyway!

I just hate lugging bags of shopping to and from the flat, and working full time, not having to battle through the supermarket at weekends saves my sanity!! ;)

    All swings and roundabouts really.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I do Tesco online shop as I work full time and when I get home I work on my own company that I am setting up so I dont have time to go to the shops. I find it less tempting to do the online shop so i dont get distracted and as I have problems adding things up, I find it easier to do it online!

Before we moved \I was shopping on line every week and I found it cheaper because I could see the running total and therefore I controlled my spending. Since we moved we now live 5 minutes away from an Asda store and I also have no storage in the kitchen. I therefore cannot do a weekly shop and although I have cut it down to twice a week I find it is much more expensive to shop like this somehow although we dont seem to be having any more luxuries apart from nice bread.

I do an online shop with Sainsburys once a month (although not this month) - if you spend over £70 and have a delivery Tuesday Wednesday or Thursday then there's no charge for delivery. As I only do this once a month I do spend over £70 and I choose a Tuesday Wednesday or Thursday nearest payday!

I do agree that it prevents me impulse shopping and I can keep an eye on exactly how much I am spending - I will delete items if I think I have spent too much.

Personally for me I find it cheaper as I am noy distracted by the household section and the books etc. Sometimes I end up buying stuff from the reduced section just because they are reduced and not really because I need them. I dont mind paying the delivery charge, with asda the other night it was £3.99. So in the long run yes it saves me money.
