Online grocery shopping... is it cheaper?

I know you can get online codes which can reduce your bill drastically and cover the cost of delivery BUT I'm a sucker for the reduced price section. There's nothing quite like the feeling of picking up a bargain. :D

What do you think? Do a little bit of both?

i occasionaly do internet shopping when i have bulkier items to get, in fact i got a tesco delivery this morn as i needed washing tablets. but i had vouchers and so got it less than half price when you take into account delivery charge. normally i go into asda after the gym and check out the reduced stuff, i love having flowers in the house, but they are so expensive so i pick them up for 10p etc in the late evenings!
  • The online shopping is good because you are not tempted by all the offers you see walking round the store :rotfl:

But I agree I love going to the reduced section :D

  • I love the home shopping normally. I was using Tesco but I have to admit I think it's not true that you resist the urge to impulse buy, I think I spend more. I was not impressed with ASDA home shop.In two out of 3 deliveries I have had to complain because alost all fresh produce was going out of date on the day it arrived, there was mould on the bread and I had 1 day to drink 16 pro-biotic drinks before they were out of date. I was not impressed.

Hmmn tricky one, I've been home shopping for ages and found I was just bringing up my usual list (the site saves them for you) and buying everything of it most weeks regardless of what was in the house. Quick yes, DFW no! Also the £5 delivery charge that seemed so reasonable such a short time ago troubles me now. I can get free delivery on weekdays if I spend at least £70 which is exactly what I'm now trying NOT to do lol!

  • I do both. It costs a fortune for delivery so its cheaper to go nthe 2 miles to the shop, but I like using the points coupons on online shops.

Hi I'm not sure, i used to shop at Tesco and also Sainsbury.s on line.
It did save me time as all my usual things are saved in favourites. The thing that used to grate me was sometimes they forgot to deliver things and added substitutes which i didn't really like, i know you can regect the items but sometimes i needed the ingredients for a recipe etc. Also some of the stuff was near the out of date limit. I went shopping at Sainsburys at the weekend and saved my self quite a bit of money as i could see the reduced items, which you can't online. 1pnt of semi skimmed mild was reduced from 33p to 5p so i worked out that the normal 6pnts which is £1.62 actually cost me 30p by buying 6x1pt cartons, bought loads. I have frozen them so have made quite a saving also 5 chicken portions was £5.30 reduced to 30p.
Made a curry out of that and its also in the freezer. So i would say sometimes going out to the shop I/P would be cheaper in the long run. All my shopping came to £71.55p not bad as i thought that it was going to be alot more than that. Told OH that that is our monthly shopping allowance until 1st Sept... so no sneaking off to the Co-op to buy beers, as ive included his beers as well that made him smile.

i love tesco online shopping and for us its definitely money saving

i always get a code for £5 off or extra clubcard points
ive been lucky and never had items missing or gone off etc
because you can see exactly what the amount of £££s its going to be you can easily + or - things away if you need to ,bit embarrasing to do that in store lmao

we started doing an online shop as we were running a business and have 2 kids,(also i couldnt drive at the time )so the last thing we wanted to do on our day off was traipse round the supermarket !! so it was fab for us :)

now that i drive i do also visit the store now and again ,have a look in the reduced section and also what 1/2 price offers they have on etc

I do my shopping online with a list that I stick to. I don't get sidetracked by anything I see in the shop and take a fancy to. I allow myself one treat with the online shop and this month it's profeiteroles. Then once or twice a week I go in the 3 local supermarkets just to look in the bargain reduced stuff and try not to look at anything else.

Online is good if you have a strict budget to stick to.

You can see your running total while you shop, so can remove items if needed to ensure you are within budget.

Saves any embarrassment at the check out :o
