scottish power want to charge me £49 to remove comfort plus meter,any ideas

The meter operator does the work on behalf of the supplier and charges him. It is up to the supplier if they choose to pass that charge on. It also depends on the commercial agreement between te supplier, meter operator and meter owner (who gets rental for the meter).
Thanks spiro, didn't realise that. However, surely if the charge isn't passed onto the individual customer doing the work, it gets passed on to us all
