Will they not change you over to a single rate tariff with your present meter?

I think it's probably the teleswitch that you're probably being charged the most for... I'd ask them for a detailed breakdown of what the £49 is going towards. Also, it won't be 'scottish power' that is charging you. It'll be your local distribution network operator/"electric board" and/or meter operator. Scottish Power will sadly only be taking the payment and passing it to them. :( Hope thats of some help.
  • Are you out of contract with scottish power ? if you are then just ring edf and say if you take this meter out then i will sign up to you. Equally if you ring scottish power and ask them to find you a cheaper tariff that matches edf, they will. Then tell them you want the meter taken out for free before you sign up. If they refuse just politely tell them you will find a company that will. normally this is enough for them to come and take it out for free.

What most people do not realise, is it's not the supplier that charges for the meter to be taken out. As the OP is having work done removing the second, now unnecessary meter and the teleswitch, it won't be Scottish Power that is actually charging to have the work done, but the distribution network/meter operator. Sheesh!

The meter operator does the work on behalf of the supplier and charges him. It is up to the supplier if they choose to pass that charge on. It also depends on the commercial agreement between te supplier, meter operator and meter owner (who gets rental for the meter).

  • i agree with spiro, scottish power can choose not to pass that charge on and in return they get that customers money for another 12 months. everyones happy.

I rang Customer Services to to see if i was on the correct tarrif and they advised me to just have the one meter, they removed the other free of charge.
