Need Broad band advice!!

Hi All

Whats the chances of someone pointing me in the right direction???

Ive been reading all the threads and who ever i think i'm gonna go with i lways read something abd about them..impossible to please everyone I know.

I'm looking for Broadband for the house but trouble is the phone port is in the main bedroom and pc is in the spare so looks like its easier to go wireless. I'm looking just to send emails, browse and download music and maybe..just maybe films.. if the speed is good enough.

Was looking at Bt Broadband and getting the hub with the phone..also get £15 cashback through rpoints.

I'm always looking for a bargain and calls currently go to primus so eveneing calls an weekend calls are free. Ive read about their broadband but no wireless.

Can anyone recommend anything.. only want a 12 month contract aswell. I have searched these forums for months now and stuck between a rock and a hard place!

Does it meet your needs? A 2Gb limit is pitifully small in my opinion! If you are only thinking about wireless due to your phone socket being in a different room, an extension socket would be a better option.

Well was looking at either the 6gb or the 40gb package..
My friend has recommend Orange. I will only be using it for browsing and downloading songs some nights and emailing.

Fone extension is a bit tricky how the bedrooms are situated!

Theres just sooo many offers and thngs to think about...its doing my head in.. at the end of the day you can never beat the market and offers are updating daily!!

What would i be able to download for 2Gig then?

You can go wireless with any ISP so it might not be the best idea to choose one soley for the offer of a free wireless modem etc... Wireless modem and USB receiver packages can be bought for around £50.

I am not sure how much BT packages go for these days but I just joined eclipse at £14.99 a month at it seems pretty good so far - this service is unlimited but they do give you a ticking off if you use more than 20GB at peak times during a month.

There are plenty of cheap ones out there though and if you are only using for light email usage etc... then it is probably not worth paying a premium for services you won't use.

Well the most i would do is download 500 songs a month, how much would that take up.. Gigabytes wise??

that could add up to 2gb just on songs. Plus you have your normal web viewing, emails with attachments etc... Beware that services with a cap normally have quite a hefty charge if you go over your limit (could be around £1 a Gig)

is there a reason why you are looking at these two companies or is it just that they are well known brands who have flashy websites/adverts etc...?

I imagine you have to be in their LLU area and that you would have to ditch you BT line and have it set up with them. It doesnt seem like a bad price - I dont know anything about Homecall's service though and a word of warning - It can be quite tricky to get taken off of a LLU operators line if you're not happy.

I suppose at the end of the day it depends on what the free calls entail and whether you actaully use your home phone that much!
