Help with heating

My house is all electric and we had dimplex storage heaters in the past but when they stopped working we threw them out, never liked them the house always felt cold and my electric bill was massive.

With winter only a few months away I was thinking of getting some sort of heating installed, we use convector heaters in the past but again very bad for the bill.

Could someone recommend some heaters for me, looking for something that's not very expensive as I don't have too much to spend and preferably something that doesn't drain the electric too much. Luckily I live in a masonette and our house is generally quite warm so I should only need 2 (one for the downstairs hall and one for upstairs).

Thanks for all your help.

Assuming you don't have gas, then your cheapest running costs would be with Storage heaters on an Economy 7 tarrif or what ever is available in your area.
If you dont want the expense then you are a bit stuck as any electric heater of a given wattage will cost you the same to run.
To conserve a bit get a room thermometer and adjust the thermostats on the convectors down to give a comfortable temperature say 20 c.

Unfortuantely don't have gas and they won't install it unless a majority of people want it. The only thing that's putting me off the economy 7 storage heaters was that I felt that when it got to late afternoon/early evening the house felt cold and we would put the convector on. Was looking at the new dimplex duo heat, anybody got any experience with them?

Already got the wiring for the dimplex heaters still installed so might just have to go back to them. They might be ok this time round as we've had cavity wall insulation since we last had them and it's made a big difference and the woman downstairs had new heating installed last year by the council and we found this made a big difference to our house as we were getting the heat rising from her house.

I had the same problem with storage heaters in my old flat, I replaced an ancient Dimplex with a more modern storage heater (a Creda I think) which worked a lot better.
I believe there is an economy 10 tarrif that gives the heaters a boost in the afternoon.

It might be an idea to get some advise from your energy supplier.

Thanks, I'll have a look at the creda. TBH it's more the initial costs of the heaters that i'm worrying about as by the time the winter comes in i'll have paid back the arrears I owe to scottish power and my payments will go down so as i'm used to paying more than I use I don't think i'll notice the real costs of running them and i'm planning on changing supplier as well so that should save me a bit.
