Problem with my Blackberry handset and O2
Options
Hello
The trackball on my Blackberry Curve after a few problems every now and then has now stopped to work properly and doesn't scroll down. This of course make my handset quite useless has I can't even access the various functions on the menu and all the rest.
I reported the problem to O2 which has said that I should return the handset to them and they will have it fixed from Blackberry, this will take around 7 to 10 days. In the meantime they will 'kindly' give me a very basic handset for my calls (that will leave me with no emails or internet access) and that I would also have to pay a £25 deposit for it.
I would like to know if any of you has had similar problems as it seems like a common fault with these handsets and what did they do? Also what are my customer rights with this problem? I even pay the monthly insurance to O2 but apparentely this is a handset fault so it's not covered.
A friend who is on Orange and had a similar problem had her Blackberry immediately replaced with a new working one, why O2 can't do the same.?
Thanks

Things have probably changed, as when my handset went faulty (no insurance but under warranty) O2 gave me a reference number to include with my handset (at cost to me) and once they recieved it, a new one was sent out, I sent mine special delivery and was with a new handset 2 days later.0

The handset started to give problems just after one year in the contract, is there like a Blackberry warranty that covers this kind of matters? The O2 insurance seems to be crap, if I 'accidentaly' drop my phone in the water I'm covered, if the handset is defective I'm not...0

I have had the same problem and the following cured it for me.
Either lock or turn off the phone. Get a piece of ordinary paper, it even works with newspaper. Rub the trackball with the paper ensuring you do the whole ball. I normally do it for about 30 seconds. This does work, I've done it to my phone quite a few times.
Hope this helps.0 -
I tried that, and it worked the first few times, but now it seeems like nothing will fix the problem other than changing the trackball itself.
O2 said they will send it to Blackberry for repair but I'll have to be with a very basic handset with no email and internet for 7-10 days. I don't think that's fair after the money I pay both for the monthly contract and the insurance.0 -
You can buy whole new cases including fascia, keyboards and trackballs on ebay for around £10
I bought one to give my battered BB Curve a new lease of life, its as good as new now.
Why waste money insuring when you can buy these kits for £10 and als new phones on ebay?0 -
Is it easy to replace the trackball by yourself? I tried to take it off to clean it but didn't seem was coming off that easily.0
