Dont, whatever you do, buy an LG. I used to work on a helpline for a large electricals store and 9 out of 10 complaints were about LG's - my mum's LG LCD, that was my Dad's 65th birthday present and cost a LOT of money, blew up after a few days. She swapped it for a Toshiba which is still going strong - now Dad's nearly 70 ;) also I can only remember one or 2 Toshiba complaints - it seems a Toshiba is a good bet. :)

I love Toshiba, it is the only brand I would trust for televisions. I've have had mine for nearly 11 years and it is still as good as when I first got it. I got a Toshiba laptop before I switched to my Macbook and that was brilliant too.

I have an old LG flat screen which has been going strong for just over 5 years, but I purchased a Sony 40" about 3 years ago and that one is still like new!

I always buy fron John Lewis the 5 year warrenty and no arguements over faults or price is a winner
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!

Just had the same problem , after much looking and reading reviews went for a panasonic p50x10 ,(50") its HD ready not full HD , but the upscaler is highly rated and picture quality is as good as full HD , if you watch mostly standard def you get as good pictures as you do with a 1080p ,
The picture is amazing no complaints at all ,have previously had sony and philips top of range crt sets 37" size
it cost about £620 with a 5 year from house of frazer , you can now get the 42" from argos for about £450 ??? (post on ukhotdeals yesterday)
The bigger the better if you intend to sell on soon or within warantee to upgrade

found this idealo site really useful for price trends and when / what to buy , get the price graphs up , (tried to post link but keeps stopping me )
